Chapter 176: 176-Still In My Mind

Iris:

"What do you mean by never?" my mother snapped, dropping her innocent act.

"I do not know if it is the right thing to wake him up," I added, watching her eyes widen even more.

Of course, I was lying. I did not want my brother to suffer either. Even if he hated me, he had every reason to rise. But I was taking my father’s advice, and I was going to wait until I had everything under control for the safety of my children and myself before waking Wilson up.

I already had too much on my hands. I could not have another person waking up hating me and ready to strike.

"This is crazy. How could you say that?" my mother hissed, her fists clenched at her sides.

"I learned it from you," I pointed out, pouting at her, trying to look innocent, the way she used to with me.

"Huh? When have I?" she replied, stopping herself, likely remembering exactly what I meant.

"Your son is fine, and we did all this so we could unlink my son from yours. Do you not want that done?" she questioned.

The hesitation in her voice told me she was scared I knew more than what she had told me.

"You do not know where he is anymore, do you?" I asked, raising my eyebrow.

She gulped and lifted her hand.

"I know exactly where he is, okay? He is my son. I can sense him," she insisted.

She kept talking as I began to laugh, shaking my head.

"Even if you find out where he is, I do not think you have the power to decide when to wake him up," I stated confidently.

It looked like she was finally realizing she could no longer fool me.

"Look, Iris, I understand I have been wrong, but do not do this to your brother. He has suffered enough. Please wake him up. I swear I will behave, and he will behave too," she pleaded, bringing her palms together in front of me.

Tears formed in my eyes, and I hated my mother for it. I did not want to cry.

"You are requesting?" I asked, clenching my jaw. "You are requesting it?"

After everything she had done, did she really think this was enough?

I stepped closer to her and looked straight into her eyes.

"I was the one who requested you to spare my child the pain you were causing him. I was the one who asked you not to make me..." I paused, clenching my fists.

"When nothing happened, did I make you sleep with Luca? No!" my mother blurted out, as if that alone was enough.

"Oh, I am really grateful you did not," I replied, taunting her for nothing, for expecting gratitude where none was due.

"Look, your anger is justified. You can take it out on me. But Wilson has suffered enough. Please wake him up already. And now that your husband is trying to take over our territory, do you not think you siblings should stand together and fight him?" my mother pleaded, trying to manipulate me again, as always.

I smiled at her and shook my head.

"I have already made up my mind. Do not worry. I will wake him up. It is just not the right time yet," I told her, reminding her she did not need to panic.

"Why not today? Wake him up today," my mother cried.

I was already walking away from her.

When I entered the room, I noticed my children’s faces fall once again. It bothered me that they were so resistant to showing happiness with their toys. But it was okay. Everything would be fine. I would work harder.

I played with them for a few minutes. They showed me their toys here and there, but I could tell they were not enjoying it. After I put them to bed, I stepped out of the room with Luca behind me.

"We are preparing the warriors, just in case," Luca informed me.

I nodded as I reached my bedroom door.

"What was your mother trying to say?" he asked.

"She was asking me when I am waking Wilson up," I replied, turning toward him once we were inside my room.

He did not share a room with me, but there were times when we discussed business there.

"And when are you waking him up?" Luca questioned.

"Not yet, Luca. I cannot deal with another person who hates me," I stated.

Luca nodded. He probably knew it too. My brother carried a deep hatred toward me.

"Anyway, I will rest now," I said to Luca, heading into the bathroom to take a shower and get ready for sleep.

Thanks to Kash, I could not rest, even when I was here. It seemed as if the purpose of Kash’s life was to disrupt my peace.

It made me wonder why. Was he not supposed to be on a honeymoon? Why was he looking for trouble so quickly?

When I came out of the bathroom, Luca had already left after signing a few files on the desk. I had asked him to confirm that I was reading the files, and once he had done that, he left them signed.

Still, I sat down and checked them all again, just to be certain, because he could make mistakes too. It was also hard for me to trust everyone after what I had gone through over the past few months. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

Once I finished my work, I crawled into bed and lay there, staring at the ceiling.

"Why is he so full of himself? Why does he only care about himself?" I whispered, clenching my fists against the blanket.

That was not entirely true. I reminded myself that he loved Lara more than anything. He had told me so himself.

I clenched my fists again and closed my eyes.

One more question had been in my heart this whole time. Was I really going to start a war against the man who still occupied most of my thoughts? Would I be okay after inflicting harm on him?

With those thoughts disturbing my peace, I finally fell asleep. But needless to say, the next few days were going to change my world entirely once again.
