District 42-Chapter 270: Proof of fire part 1
Ivar stomped the ground, boosting his body forward with a surreal strength. The Vanir, however, didn’t seem to be too concerned about his sudden and quick approach. In truth, his face showed that he was even expecting the Aesir to be so strong like that.
Even before the Aesir could start his rush, he had already raised his hands and pointed them at him. Just then, Ivar noticed that he had tiny and thin pipes made of some sort of metal on his wrists. From some pipes, firstly a smelly gas that was the mix of ammonia and hydrogen went out in am average pressure. Then, from the others, flames were lit up and flew in a massive barrage in front of Ivar.
That strong burst of fire seemed to envelop the Aesir’s body, which disappeared inside of it. He had an idea that the potency of the Vanir’s attack would be something to fear but never thought that this much power was hidden behind it.
Once the Vanir countered, he jumped backward, retrieving as fast as he could to a safe distance. He was sure that his flames could get that man even if a bit, but he knew that Ivar wasn’t someone to underestimate.
The flames were vanishing quickly. When the bandaged criminal retrieved from a great distance, he pointed his hands to that same spot again and shot another burst of flames. It had more pressure this time, so the fire crossed the streets and engulfed a wide range as fast as a bullet, spreading around and melting everything on the way.
The Vanir, relaxed for a while. He wasn’t even tired. The battle was faster than he thought. The first mistake of that Aesir was to be so confident and rush towards him in a straight line.
’I know you are strength, Wild Aesir. But you need to be aware that--’ Before he could finish, he saw a pale gleam appearing on his peripheral vision.
Without even turning to the side to see what it was, he bent his body backward. Then, he saw a sword passing centimeters above his face horizontally.
He made a backflip before he lost his balance with that dodge. The man knew that the sword would come back, probably horizontally again. This time, he didn’t have time to use his powerful flamethrower. He unsheathed the machete on his waist and poised it to defend the next blow.
The attack indeed came, and faster than the first one. The bandaged man was intending to lock blades with his enemy but got surprised when that swing nearly made his body fly sideways.
He could manage to endure the impact but needed to leap to the side to get more distance again. He jumped several meters away, flames went out from his boots, boosting him. The Vanir needed to catch his breath, so he needed a quick retrieve this time.
’This should be eno--’ Before he could finish his reasoning again, that pale gleam could be seen another time.
It was not just unexpected now, but impossible for him, that the opponent could catch up so quickly. He dodged the first blow, but then came a second, third, fourth... But the swings seemed to become faster rather than slower each time.
In the ninth swing he could not maintain his balance anymore. He was waving his body to all sides with so much speed that his back cracked and made him falter for just a moment. However, just that moment was enough. The blade struck him on the arm vertically, from shoulder to wrist. It wasn’t a terrifying cut, though.
In despair, the Vanir took advantage that the balance on his legs was gone and put both hands on the ground. The gas and the flames came in no time.
"Get away from me!" The ground exploded in a ball of fire that grew each time more.
The amount of gas didn’t stop increasing, which made it became wider and wider. The flames were wild and violent. It seemed like a tsunami.
’If not for the lights of the Castle reflecting on the sword’s blade, I wouldn’t be able to dodge any of those swings. Is there more than one crazy person wielding a sword around here?’
Nonetheless, the Frelsi needed to frown when he saw no one around even after the flames were gone. He was still holding his machete firmly in his hands and was prepared to make another explosion like that.
He was going to start to walk to search for his enemies but got paralyzed when someone suddenly appeared on his right side.
’Fast!’ He activated the boots and jumped, pointing the sole to the threat. The flames came out in the middle air. It didn’t just launch his body to the side to avoid the danger but also struck the person’s body.
The Vanir landed on the ground.
’Where? From where it is com--’ The same pale gleam appeared, and he ducked forward. The sound of the blade hissing while cutting the air above him was sound and clear for his ears. A chill ran down his spine once he noticed the strength behind that blow.
He launched his body forward with the boots at the same time as he sent a barrier of fire behind with his hands.
’What the hell is it!?’ He was panting hard. Until now he didn’t have the time even to breathe.
"Tired already? I thought you were stronger than it." Some meters away, on the left side, that familiar voice came.
The Vanir looked quickly to the side and his heart throbbed as his mind went blank due to the surprise.
"And I am not even using all my strength. What a pity." Ivar was walking in his direction, grinning widely and snapping his fingers one by one. With the other hand, he spun skilfully his sword.
’Don’t tell me that... It was this same guy all the time? Is he so fast like this? What the heck... It couldn’t even be possible. My boots can launch me up to 300 meters away easily. The range of my explosions reached 250 square meters, the bigger one was 400. To cover all this distance in less than one second, this guy needs to be a...’
"A monster? That’s what you are thinking, right? Yes, that’s right. I have a lot of names in this District, to be honest. Ivar, Wild Aesir, Mad sgail, Craziest warrior, Fight addicted..." He raised one finger for each name as he walked slowly toward the Vanir. "But the one that I most like is Fenrir!"
The Vanir needed to back away one step.
’This guy...’ His face was turned to the ground, so no one could see his expression.
"Hey, Vanir... What’s your name? I ask it to most of the weaklings I fight, so I can remember their names. I think it’s a matter of respect to remember the ones you kill in a duel and I would barely remember someone as pathetic as you after you die, after all."
"Hahaha... Hahahaha! HAHAHAHAHA!!" The Vanir opened his eyes, raising his head and glaring at Ivar. There was craziness inside them and a killing intent that could be sensed from distance. His laugh echoed on that city and made whoever heard it shiver in fear.
Ivar just kept standing there, narrowing his eyes and still smiling.
"Yes! That’s it! You are the best, aren’t you!? You are the Fenrir, the beginning of Ragnarok, the most powerful of the district! I knew it, I knew it!" He spoke, gesturing exaggeratedly.
’Hmm, I see. He is an unstable guy, huh?’ The Aesir reasoned, amused.
"Man, it will be sooo good when I BURN YOU! No, no, not just good, it will be AWESOME!" Sparks started to appear from the bandages wrapped all over his body. At first, their quantity wasn’t so big, but they started to come in droves.
"If that’s the case, then why am I holding here? To hell with not killing innocents! To hell with not destroying all the Castle! I will burn everything together with ME!" Flames started to appear as those sparks became stronger.
Soon, all the bandages in his body were burning in high intensity, covering him like a fire armor. The flames extended to his machete as well, which didn’t melt at all.
’That machete is made of tungsten... As for the bandages, I can’t identify this technology at all. I don’t know why his body doesn’t melt as well. The intensity of these flames can melt iron in just some seconds. It’s difficult to imagine that Frelsis could do something like this.’ The Aesir’s disappointment was vanishing once he saw that his enemy had more to show.
"My name is Tein, the Vanir of fire!" He prepared himself to charge forward again, bending his knees. His feet were sinking on the asphalt as it was melting quickly. "Let’s start the real battle now, Fenrir!"
