Chapter 51: Look Into Her

Later, Celine found herself sitting in a long, boring meeting where they negotiated a deal. If she had even thought that she would be caught in such a situation, she wouldn’t have used that excuse, in the end she hadn’t seen Tristan and ended up having to sit through such a long official negotiations where they threw numbers at each other and logical reasons to back their demands.

The conference room was quiet for some moments, sunlight gleaming off the polished mahogany table. Sitting across from each other, two men sized each other over a folder of thick documents. Celine who didn’t have anything to say or input into their tireless negotiation merely watched quietly.

"Since we’re here for the same cause, why don’t you come with me to seal the deal." The man wearing a baseball cap had told her, and in order not to expose a lie she had already told in front of the receptionists, Celine had no choice but to follow along with a forced smile.

The man in a baseball cap sat with a reclined slouch, so effortlessly as If he wasn’t here for a tough and tense negotiation. She could tell that the middle aged man who had been called Mr Alden was quite displeased, but he didn’t show it since this was business.

The baseball cap guy casually pushed a photograph across the table. It showed rolling hills and an incredibly vast view of buildings that looked like a big city on it’s own.

"Eclipse estates, you know what it is. Everyone wants it."

"I know, and I’m aware of it’s value. Our offer is fair and reasonable young man, maybe instead of arguing you should contact your boss. A deal with Grayson Corp comes with it’s merits, it entails a lifetime of connections with our company, everyone wants that too."

Celine caught as a smirk lifted the lips of the baseball cap guy, she had tried to get a glimpse of his face, but it seemed he was having fun keeping his face hidden. It was sort of disrespectful to Mr Alden to have a full business conversation with someone who refused to make eye contact once, that could be one of the reasons for the older man’s slight displeasure.

"The price you’re calling fair feels lacking to me. Mr Alden, why are you here arguing with me over this, call your boss to confirm."

Celine had to look at the baseball cap guy again for his daring words. He quite frankly didn’t look like much of a person in a high position, while Mr Alden was a high staff of Grayson Corp, not to mention he looked quite scary, if he was offended by anything the baseball cap guy said, he might try to get him fired if he had enough connections.

Wasn’t he scared of offending a higher up? Celine wondered.

As expected, Mr Alden’s face changed expressions. He was visibly offended but once again kept it reigned in.

"Right now, I am the boss of this project. I’ve been given the power of approval or to decline your offer."

The baseball cap guy could have used this opportunity to try to smooth things over, but instead he laughed. A low chuckle that sounded like an insult to the words Mr Alden said right now.

Celine glared at his profile but his gaze was fixed on Mr Alden. If he had come here to offend people, why drag her into it?

Surely he must have known that she’d lied right? That she wasn’t a representative of Eclipse estates but he still made her come to this negotiating with him, was there some sort of weird satisfaction he wanted to derive from it?

Mr Alden drew in a shaky breath, controlling his displeasure.

"Tristan told you to close this deal, let’s not make a fool of each other here." The baseball cap guy said.

Tristan? Celine wondered quietly. For a mere representative, he sure knew how to cross boundaries. He was addressing the president of Grayson Corp itself by his first name. He truly didn’t seem to care about offending people.

Instead of finding it weird that the guy had addressed his boss by his first name, a hint of a troubled look revealed itself of Mr Alden’s expression but he kept it concealed quite well.

"Your offer is outrageous, we’ve calculated everything. The development costs alone..." Mr Alden was saying but the interruption that suddenly came after seized the words right up his throat.

"...are your problems, not mine. I just need to know one thing, do we have a deal or not?"

Mr Alden’s face had turned red by now, there was a vengeful look in his eyes as he glared at the baseball cap guy with forced restraint.

"Fine, your price. But we close in a week."

Celine was quite surprised when he agreed, it seemed he truly had no choice but to make the purchase, however he had gone on to try to negotiate perhaps to get a praise from his superiors for his negotiations skills, but apparently he came across someone who could play low and dirty without a care for consequences.

About an hour and a half had passed by the time both men stood up and shook hands having come to an agreement. The man with a baseball cap sounded extremely pleased...he had won the negotiations after all.

When it was over, Celine breathed a sigh of relief and immediately got out of there. Reaching outside the building, baseball cap guy called after her.

"You did a wonderful job there, Miss. You contributed to zero percent of our sales today, I’ll make sure to put in a good word to our boss."

Celine knew he was just taunting her after knowing she had lied, just making her sit through the meeting wasn’t enough, he had to throw a final jab at her. She said nothing to him as she entered her car and drove away.

Only after Celine was gone did the man take off the baseball cap to reveal dark mysterious eyes that watched her with hints of amusement. A young male assistant hurriedly came to stand next to him.

"Who was that, Mr Grant?" The young assistant followed the baseball cap guy’s gaze which was still fixed on Celine’s car curiously.

Julian Grant had entered the Grayson Corp in his usual disguise alone but he had come out with a woman, hence the assistant became curious about Celine’s identity.

"I don’t know, but make sure you find out will you." Julian instructed, his voice having lost the quiet carefreeness it had when he was speaking to Celine a whole ago.

Those sharp blue eyes had done nothing but glare at him the whole time throughout the negotiations, he had felt her gaze like burning fire in his scalp, but what was weird was the fact that her eyes felt somewhat familiar, as if he’d seen them somewhere before but he couldn’t remember.

"Make sure to look into her, I really want to know where I’ve seen her before." Julian Grant instructed his assistant as he stepped into the open door of the black Rolls Royce Veyron his assistant held open for him.

"Will do, Mr Grant." The assistant said feeling grateful that he’d caught her car’s plate number.
