Ensnaring his Dark Moon-Chapter 203: Diary
The guards, Jeremiah, Luciana, and the King all turned to look at Esme when she suddenly started laughing.
Esme wiped the smile off her face to match their solemn gazes. She cleared her throat, ’’Is this the place?" she moved forward, following Luciana as they moved inside the doors, their tails cutting through the water.
The guards stayed outside.
Outside the door, all they could see was a vast stretch of the sea without anything else in sight but stepping inside the door, what greeted their sight was another kind of world.
Statues upon statues of a man and woman.
An altar.
Shelves of books and scriptures glowed under the light emitted by the sparkling jellyfish.
Esme has always been amazed by the sea world no matter how many times she came here but the sight of this was still marvelous.
It was so spellbinding.
Her gaze shifted to the white sculptures of a man and woman who were standing side by side. The woman was looking at the man with so much adoration.
’’She loves him, does she not?" Luciana whispered, approaching her while the King and Jeremiah approached the altar to make arrangements for the portal.
’’She does. Or so I think,’’ Esme whispered back, ’’Why would she look at him like this if she didn’t?"
’’I know... Look at the man,’’ Luciana said, ’’Our God.’’
Their god. God Zephyr? These two people were the god and his wife?
Esme followed Luciana’s gaze. The man’s face was frigid, not giving away a single emotion and it felt like he was not interested in anything around him, ’’He seems annoyed,’’ she remarked.
’’I don’t think he ever had any interest in her. In all the books kept here, I read a lot about our God but the woman with him was nowhere mentioned like she was somewhat insignificant.’’
Esme narrowed her eyes at Luciana, ’’I thought this is the first time people came inside? You sound like you have been here.’’
’’That’s because I have been here,’’ Luciana sneakily whispered while stealing glances at the King and her Uncle who were casting spells to open the portal, ’’I was always curious and that year, the King was not around. I visited the Castle to meet my Uncle but I wandered off to the King’s room where I found the key to this place....’’ She winced at the reminder, ’’The lock is very unique and so was the key. I recognized it immediately and I brought it with me...’’
’’You mean you stole it?" Esme quirked a brow.
’’I brought it with me just to take a peek at what was inside this mysterious place,’’ Luciana cleared her throat.
’’I like the sound of it,’’ Esme smiled as they moved towards the next statue.
’’I didn’t tell my father and brother about it. They would have skinned me alive if they knew,’’ Luciana closed her eyes at the near escape she made back then, ’’After I saw everything here, I noted it down in my diary because I was afraid I would forget about it when I grow up. And I closed the diary with a spell. I was not as strong back then so my spell was laughable but...’’
’’But?"
’’See that trident that the King just picked up from the vines?"
Esme followed her gaze and glanced at the mysterious trident that the King was holding in his hand.
’’It contains divine powers. I read about it in one of the books and when I tried, my spell immediately came into effect. All the words I wrote in the diary disappeared,’’ Luciana revealed.
’’What... kind of spell was that?" Esme asked, intrigued by it.
Luciana’s face felt hot, ’’It was a childish phrase. I was young. But what it meant was that it needed two drops of blood of a person who had divine powers and one drop of blood from a mer for the words to appear on the pages,’’ she said, ’’I just wrote it in a roundabout way so that no one would understand it and when I wrote it, I never expected two people like that to ever come together and drip their blood on it.’’
’’Then where did your diary go? Did anyone ever read it?"
’’You are the only person who knows this secret. I will be banished from here if anyone else knows what I did back then.’’
Esme frowned, ’’You... Why would you share it with me then?"
’’Because you said we are friends. So I thought I should share things with you once in a while although I am not fond of sharing.’’
Esme rolled her eyes but she felt warmth in her heart.
’’I lost my diary when father rebuilt a new house for us,’’ Luciana said, ’’It probably landed in the hands of some merchant who sold it to the humans. Surprisingly, it was read by someone.’’
Esme was about to ask more questions but the waves of the water suddenly turned violent. She grabbed Luciana’s arm for support, ’’What...’’
’’Don’t worry. It’s the portal,’’ Luciana said, patting her hand as she stabilized them with her magic.
As Esme looked up, her gaze landed on the portal that was gradually expanding in size, ’’Let’s go,’’ she said, her eyes widened in amazement.
She had never seen something like this before.
Luciana picked up their trunks as they approached the portal.
Esme held Leo closer to her body. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
When they reached the portal, the King turned to look at her, ’’This is what you are representing,’’ he grabbed her hand and placed the trident in her hand.
Esme’s lips parted, ’’I... am representing it? Not Luciana?"
The King looked at her like he was wondering how she was so slow.
Esme retreated slowly, ’’But I don’t know a thing,’’ she shook her head, ’’I don’t know how to bless or how to use this. I just...’’
’’When you use it, it will obey you,’’ the man said.
Jeremiah nodded, ’’All you need to do is calm down.’’
Before Esme could turn around and swim away, Luciana pushed her from the back, catching her off guard.
She jumped after her.
’’Luciana!!!’’ Esme screamed from inside the portal.
’’These girls...’’ Rezeph shook his head in amusement, ’’Ever so chaotic.’’
Jeremiah glanced at the closing portal in a daze, ’’Your Majesty, why did you send Es?" he asked.
Rezeph turned to look at him, ’’What do you mean?"
’’She has no special powers that we know of. I have never seen her using any powers. She...’’
’’You think so less of your fiancée?"
’’No... She is beautiful, kind, sweet and so innocent. I love her but can she handle a situation like this? A blessing ceremony in the heavenly realm needs an abundant amount of divine power. The trident won’t respond to someone like her. But I am relieved that Luciana is there with her. Hopefully, she will replace her if things don’t work with Esme...’’ he said.
’’Instead of talking about them, don’t you think you have some answering to do?"
...
The diary Luciana mentioned is the same blank book that Esme and Al found in the library under the church that had letters appearing on it later with their blood drops. Esme only managed to read a few pages of it because she never got the chance to finish it. (Go to Chapter 120 if you need reference)
I am juggling your memory because I know there have been large gaps between the updates. So, just in case it slipped off your minds... ^^’
