Pampered by My Ex's Cousin-Chapter 83 - 84 Reluctant Cohabitation (Part 28)
Ji Anning felt a bit uncomfortable being so close to Ji Jingfeng, but she knew he was putting on a show for their mother. She lowered her head, awkwardly fumbling.
"An’an."
Ji Jingfeng suddenly called her, and she instinctively looked up at him.
Before Ji Jingfeng could speak, she suddenly felt a gaze from upstairs watching them. She swiftly looked in that direction.
Catching just a glimpse of a man’s retreating profile, her heart uncontrollably felt pulled even more uncomfortably away from Ji Jingfeng’s embrace.
"I’m going upstairs to change, I have a class this morning."
Ji Anning found an excuse and pushed away from Ji Jingfeng.
"The child is shy again."
Yang Yufang saw Ji Anning lower her head and leave, thinking she was shy, her mood visibly brightened.
Once Ji Anning had gone upstairs and turned out of sight, the smile on her face slowly faded. She turned to look at Ji Jingfeng, her lips still holding a trace of satisfaction, "Jingfeng, when mom’s not in this house, you must protect Anning."
"Mhm."
Ji Jingfeng nodded. He looked at his mother, his eyes also full of reluctance, "Mom, I’ll definitely bring you back home as soon as possible."
He reached out and grasped Yang Yufang’s hand, his eyes flashing with determination, resolved to succeed.
...
"Anning."
After changing her clothes, Ji Anning went to the stairwell, where Yang Yufang called out to her from downstairs.
She looked down to see Yang Yufang holding a parcel. While staring at the label on the parcel, she said to her, "A parcel arrived from M-country. It’s not addressed to anyone in our family. Go ask your uncle if it’s his."
"Ah?"
Ask her to knock on Ji Chicheng’s door?
Seeing Ji Anning in a daze, Yang Yufang furrowed her brows in confusion, "What’s wrong?"
"Nothing," Ji Anning quickly shook her head, "I’ll call him now."
She really couldn’t find a reason to decline this task. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
Saying so, she turned back and walked to Ji Chicheng’s room. She reached out her hand, hesitated while biting her lip, and then mustered the courage to knock.
’Knock knock knock’
She knocked lightly twice, waiting for a response from inside, feeling more nervous than when entering an exam room.
She didn’t want to see his indifferent face and those eyes with a trace of contempt.
Remembering that night when he deliberately threw the cup on the ground to humiliate her, she clenched her fists, seething with anger as she imagined punching him in the face when he opened the door.
Inside, the man was getting dressed while looking down at the laptop on the sofa. The screen showed a scanned photograph with a heading saying "Elite 04th Session Outstanding Students Commendation Conference."
In the photo, a row of students dressed in ’Elite’ uniforms stood, with the only girl in the middle, appearing especially petite.
In the frame, her gaze was fixed to her right.
’I used to rank within the top three in my year during every exam, just to stand with him at the commendation conference. Yet I realized, even then, standing in the same place, I still had to look up when I saw him...’
’You demon, do you have any idea how hard it’s been for me to get to where I am today...’
Sigh!
Not knowing how long he had been looking at the photo, so long that his eyes began to sting and ache, he finally snapped back to reality, bending down to pick up the white shirt on the sofa and put it on.
Suddenly, a knock on the door reverberated. His buttoning hands briefly paused. Once he confirmed someone was knocking, he lazily walked over to the door.
He opened it.
For Ji Anning, who was mentally preparing to punch Ji Chicheng, the door opened too suddenly.
