Peach Luck Village-Chapter 48: Encounter with the Lu Family People
Meanwhile, Lin Tian drove back to the Xu Family.
As he passed by the Lu Family’s home, he saw He Hui holding a child, Lu Ruoxi, and Aunt Tao and a group of people getting out of a taxi.
It was already nine o’clock at night, the sky was dark; what could possibly bring them here so late?
Lin Tian guessed that something had gone wrong and pulled over to ask, "Sister-in-law, Sister Ruoxi, Aunt Tao, what happened for you to rush back so late?"
Lu Ruoxi exploded in frustration, "Don’t even mention it, I’m so mad, I’ve never been treated like this."
"What exactly happened? Is there anything I can help with?"
Lin Tian stepped out of his car.
Lu Ruoxi’s eyes spun craftily as she came up with a bold idea.
Lu Ruoxi walked up and linked her arm with Lin Tian’s, "Brother Lin Tian, come with me, I have something to discuss with you."
"Sure!"
Lin Tian followed Lu Ruoxi as they walked off into the distance.
Aunt Tao frowned and scolded, "Ruoxi, it’s getting late, where are you going with Lin Tian? Come back here immediately."
She felt that she couldn’t indulge Lu Ruoxi any longer.
Otherwise, it was only a matter of time before trouble would arise and tarnish the Lu Family’s reputation completely.
Lu Ruoxi impatiently retorted, "I’m an adult, can’t you just back off a bit? You make it seem like I’m still a child."
"You!"
Aunt Tao was livid.
He Hui tried to soothe her, "Mom, calm down. Ruoxi didn’t mean to upset you; she’s just feeling really stressed right now."
Handing the child to Aunt Tao, He Hui suggested, "Mom, if you’re worried, I’ll follow them to make sure Ruoxi doesn’t do anything foolish."
Aunt Tao took the child and urged her, "Then go quickly and keep a close eye on them."
"I refuse to believe that they’d lose all shame and do something disgraceful right in front of me, their sister-in-law."
Thinking about what had happened in the sedan yesterday, she felt it was absurd.
In the past, such behavior would have led to severe punishment.
Pounding her chest, He Hui promised, "Mom, don’t worry, I’ll make sure they don’t do anything outrageous."
After that, He Hui quickly caught up to them.
But it wasn’t out of eagerness to join in the fun with Lu Ruoxi.
It was because she felt guilty for lying.
Yet, she had no regrets, having experienced an unprecedented joy.
Even if it led to the breakdown of her marriage, she felt it was worth it, better than dying of thirst in her current state.
By the time He Hui caught up with Lin Tian and Lu Ruoxi, Lu Ruoxi had already told Lin Tian everything from start to finish.
The issue wasn’t complicated.
Earlier that evening, the Lu Family and the Hou Family had dinner together, where Hou Qian’s sister, Hou Qian, made some unreasonable demands.
For example, after the marriage, Lu Ruoxi shouldn’t have any contact with any men other than Hou.
Lu Ruoxi was expected to maintain her chastity.
And after the marriage, Lu Ruoxi couldn’t spend the Hou Family’s money on her own family members.
Lu Ruoxi had to remember that after marrying Hou, she would no longer be a member of the Lu Family but the Hou Family.
The last demand, which was the most outrageous,
required the Lu Family members to dress more appropriately when visiting the Hou Family; otherwise, they should refrain from coming and casting a bad light on the Hou Family.
This was a clear case of looking down upon the Lu Family.
Thinking that Lu Ruoxi marrying Hou was marrying above her station.
Saying things like, if it wasn’t for her brother’s fondness, a rural woman like Lu Ruoxi wouldn’t even be considered by the Hou Family.
They wouldn’t get in the way of lovebirds unless Lu Ruoxi agreed to those terms, then she would consent to the marriage.
Otherwise, even if Hou went behind her back to marry Lu Ruoxi, she wouldn’t recognize Lu Ruoxi as her sister-in-law.
Lu Ruoxi couldn’t tolerate such treatment and left on the spot.
Hou indeed had feelings for Lu Ruoxi and immediately followed her.
Unfortunately, he’d been drinking and couldn’t drive, so they called a taxi to send the Lu Family home first.
He went back to persuade his family.
And it had been effective.
Hou had already called, saying he’d convinced his sister, and he’d be coming over to the Lu Family early tomorrow to apologize.
As for how Hou convinced her, Lu Ruoxi didn’t ask.
She wasn’t interested in that detail.
What she cared about was how to get her revenge and release the anger in her heart.
She wouldn’t simply forgive Hou Qian when she came to apologize tomorrow.
Lu Ruoxi knew all too well that tonight, Hou Qian was trying to intimidate her.
If she forgave too easily, Hou Qian would only become more audacious in the future.
Perhaps even to the point of thoroughly disrespecting her.
How could she tolerate such treatment? She needed to put Hou Qian in her place now.
