Chapter 608: Chapter 608: Embers And Ashes

The function of the Fox Fire as a race-exclusive privilege was to give the foxes a boost in their overall power.

Fox Fire wasn’t like the Red Fire which turned its users berserk or Rejuvenation Fire which did nothing but heal and restore.

Fox Fire boosted the abilities of all the foxes near its burning presence. Fox Fire wasn’t hot, but the foxes could feel the warmth.

They were drawn to the warmth the same way a child was drawn to a mother’s embrace. The glow and metaphysical heat produced by the Fox Fire awakened a distant primal feeling within the foxes, making them feel as though they could only be at home in a place where the Fox Fire burned.

With the Fox Fire, Ivana had no problem taking over the role of caste leader from Vixy. Everyone knew that when Ivana grew older and her ambitions started to rise, which was expected for a fox, she would more or less take the caste leader role.

That was why she was being brought up to learn a bit about leadership and the priorities of her race.

And even if she didn’t want the role, Vixy would have no choice but to hand it over to her as there could not be an ordinary leader when a Primordial Fox existed.

Vixy knew this as every day she woke up to take care of Ivana, she was reminded of the painful reality that was coming her way.

There was once a time when she was the only fox Kael could trust. Even when she had offended the King and killed Ken, her competitor, he had still kept her by his side even though she was burdened with an impossible punishment.

For a long time, Vixy had blinded herself to the reality of power, forgetting that the power she wielded in the caste was not taken by force but given to her by a higher power.

Every day she woke up to take care of Ivana, she was reminded that she was also helping the king raise her replacement.

Vixy was distraught with a mix of resentment and resignation. She didn’t want to let go of her position, she didn’t.

She would prefer if she were born as the Primordial Fox, yes that would be best. But reality was often cruel to those with high expectations.

The reason she continued to raise Ivana was a combination of three reasons.

First, the All-King had commanded it. She couldn’t ignore that even if she wanted to, unless she was really tired of receiving Kael’s favor.

The second was that Vixy was smart enough to know that as long as Ivana grew up, she would be very powerful in the future.

Wouldn’t it be a good idea to imprint herself into the mind of this young Primordial Fox so that she could maintain her power even if she maintains her role as the caste leader in the future?

The last reason was that Vixy had begun to grow fond of Ivana.

Alas, Vixy was a Spirit Fox, the kind of fox that had a wide array of active emotions, even though she suppressed them most of the time.

The time she had spent training Ivana had inadvertently caused the cold vixen to create a sort of emotional attachment.

Not to mention that Ivana was named after her long-dead life partner, Ivan.

So, when Vixy saw the look of fear on Ivana’s face as she stood under the cracked sky and the gigantic flaming talons, Vixy almost had a heart attack.

She rushed forward with all her might, the cunning and playful look usually resting at the depths of her eyes was gone, replaced with vigilance and worry.

As she came under the dark blue glow of the Fox Fire being emitted from Ivana, Vixy felt all her abilities crank up to new heights.

The land shattered under her steps, her spire senses spreading out and touching everything within her surrounding kilometers.

In a flash, a couple of foxes had reached Ivana already. These were the foxes who had abilities that could enhance their speed.

Vixy was one of the slowest foxes physically so it was no surprise that she wasn’t the first to make it to Ivana.

She was just two seconds late.

.

By the time she made it to Ivana’s side, the raging Phoenix had clawed out a large chunk of the artificial sky and was staring down into the chamber world with its large eye.

"Give her to me!"

Eleanor commanded, reaching down with a pillar of scorching flames that decimated the land and killed a few foxes.

Vixy had already carried Ivana into her embrace and was running away as fast as she could.

Eleanor followed them with her hot gaze and sent another beam of fire their way.

This time, they were sure not to survive. How could they survive the attack of a being who was touching on the might of an immortal?

Luckily, Ralph was present.

Before the beam of fire could hit Vixy and Ivana, Ralph shot past them and jumped toward the sky.

His body transformed. He turned into a wolf covered in icy blue fire and two wings sprouted from his back.

Ralph had set the powerful Phoenix as his target, initiating the special ability to transform into the perfect hunter.

He launched himself straight at the approaching beam of fire, using his body to stop it from descending and pushing back with all his might.

One thing was for sure, Ralph had underestimated the might of Eleanor.

He was smashed into the ground, his body breaking through layers of metal and circuits while snapping boards and wires.

He didn’t stop until he had bashed a wolf-shaped hole into the chamber world below.

Through the hole, one could see all the vast land and grasses growing as well as the few creatures that were in the process of fleeing from the chamber world.

Coincidentally, this chamber world had been designated for the Buffalos.

Ralph crashed into the ground from the second artificial sky, creating a wide crater that shook the land and startled the nearby escapees.

"Ugh!" Ralph groaned, standing up and shaking the pieces of rubble off his icy blue body.

He looked up immediately to see that there was a scorched hole in the artificial sky of this chamber world.

Now the arkship was really damaged.

Thankfully, although he was not a match for that beam of fire from the Phoenix, he had given Vixy and Ivana enough space to escape.

By now, they should have left the chamber world and rushed straight to the Chamber of Command.

Or so Ralph thought.

"Hahahahahahaaaa!" Eleanor laughed out loud, her joy resonating with the Phoenixes thousands of light-years away.

"I have achieved something none of my ancestors can even think of, I have finally captured the source of our curse, the reason for our abominable existence!"

Eleanor narrowed her humongous eyes, increasing the heat around her.

She flapped her titanic wings to express her ecstasy, further destabilizing the whole arkship in the process.

She shifted one of her talons to make room for two figures to float out of the crack.

One of the figures was the little Ivana who struggled against the strings of flames binding her.

The other was Vixy, barely conscious with burn marks all over her body. She too was bound by fiery strings and lifted into her vacuum of space.

Both of them floated in front of the massive head of the Phoenix as the latter observed them both.

"Interesting, so it’s true?" Eleanor asked gently as she brought her massive head closer, illuminating the two of them.

Ivana could stand the heat with no problem but Vixy was burning up.

"You are the Primordial Fox of Fire, yet, you can’t do anything anymore flames. It is a price you must pay for the abominations your ancestors created," Eleanor said into the mind of Ivana.

Ivana did not answer or pay attention to what the giant Phoenix was saying. Instead, she turned her head to look at Vixy who was next to her.

What Ivana saw made her heart bleed and tears to flow from her eyes.

Vixy was suffering, she was in pain.

The heat from the giant Phoenix alone was burning up her skin and turning her into a blackened figure.

She was going crazy, screaming at the top of her lungs but there was no atmosphere in space for sound to be transmitted.

No one could hear her screams, but from the looks of her face, anyone would know that she was in a lot of pain.

Vixy’s crimson hair was burning up at a steady rate and her skin was turning black. The string vitality that her power level gave her was just an accessory to her torture right now.

"Oh, so even Primordials can get attached?" Eleanor asked, noting the sorrowful look on Ivana’s face as she watched her adopted aunt suffer.

"It won’t matter in the end.

Let me make it quick," Eleanor said, clearly in a good mood right now.

And then, a gust of orange Phoenix flames burst out from her eyes and enveloped Vixy.

Ivana screamed, but nothing could be heard. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞

When the torrent of flames died down, all that was left were embers and ashes which drifted away into the endless void.

Vixy was gone.
