Chapter 35: A spectacle

Alpha called for any healer student around. Three girls rose at once, eager to show how skilled they are with their healing quirk.

"I wonder why only females get that quirk," Alpha said. "The one with the highest rank among you three should go help the poor latecomer lad before he finally gives up. How can a boy be so weak? Did he get weaker at Luxus?"

Two of the girls ran to the back of the class. They both got the C-rank glowing on their wrist.

"I said one of you, filthy dust!" Alpha yelled at them. "Is he so handsome that you can't resist touching him?!"

The class bust our laughing. The girl at the front was already close to Leo, so the one behind just returned to her seat. "That's right. Learn to take the L," Alpha said to the retreating one.

Rosa was kneeling over Leo. Even when he sat alone at the back and she was four rows away from him, she still was the first to notice when Leo collapsed. Her scream alerted the teacher about the scene.

As soon as the healer girl got to Leo, Alpha resumed the class like nothing happened. The screen resumed play and the students' attention returned to the screen, forgetting Leo at once. Why should anybody care at first? He's just a low rank boy who's not worth anybody's time.

The healer girl, slim and beautiful with black ponytail hair, bent over Leo and touched his forehead gently while activating her quirk. To be fair, she didn't give no care about Leo who was lower in rank than her. She only wanted to prove herself before everybody. Her dream ever since she acquired the quirk was to become a qualified doctor after increasing her rank so she can help heal the Avengers one day. So, every avenue to show her skills was welcome to her.

Rosa bent closer to Leo, sincerely scared for him. His mouth moved shakily and he whispered some unclear words. Rosa caught a hint of what he as saying later on. "I've failed Earth. I've failed Earth..." it went on and on while the healer continued to strain herself trying to calm him.

After a while, she said to Rosa, "he's not responding, I don't know why. I can only try to make him sleep, maybe it will help him calm. Then we can take him to the hospital wing."

Rosa flared. "Of course, that's what a sleep does, it calms people. What were you planning to do before, revive him just like that?! He's in a panic state, he freaking needs to be sedated, you moron!"

"Hey, keep it down back there. Why are you two fighting over a guy? There are better guys right here, okay?" Alpha cautioned them, drawing another bout of laughter from the other students.

The healer girl, hurt from being shouted at by a Morningbolt girl returned to her duty. She placed his hand gently on Leo's forehead again but at a different location than before. Rosa was growing impatient.

"You're really not competent," she said. "How did you get a C-rank?"

A minute later, Leo's lips stopped moving and he was finally rested. His eyes closed and his expression appeared calm.

"Took you long enough. Thanks anyways, for making the process long and painful for me. I owe you one, I mean it," Rosa thanked the healer sarcastically. In truth, it wasn't a thanks but a threat.

She rose from her bent position and raised her hand to attract Alpha's attention. He saw her and paused the show on the screen. "Yes, my dear latecomer. What can I offer you apart from further punishment?"

"I need to get Leo to the hospital wing."

"Oh, is his name Leo? Such a strong name for a weakling. But are you planning on ditching the rest of the class? We're just getting to the best part of Earth's history."

"Earth's history can go choke on my ear wax," Rosa said under her breath.

Alpha appeared a little shocked at the front of the class. "Well, you can take him. However you just missed a couple marks for ditching class for a boy... And just so you know, I heard what you said under your breath. That's an improved curse word, born out of the deepest rage never known to mankind, but I won't punish you for that. Just go."

Rosa wasn't really shocked that Alpha heard her. Her anger has shut away any sense of fear for now.

The students didn't understand what the hidden exchange between the teacher and the student was all about. Nobody heard her but a boy nearby who had the passive quirk of advanced hearing. He told the next student what she said, and in less than a minute the class was informed of what Rosa said by whispering the information round.

Rosa, unbothered went over to Leo and with her telekinesis quirk, rose him in the air without even a touch. The class "oohed" and "aahed", intrigued by the scene before them.

"I'll kill all of you later," Rosa swore under her breath. She walked to the door of the classroom as Leo's body floated before her. She was so good with her quirk as she turned and straightened him effortlessly even as they passed through the half-closed doorway.

"This year's freshers are full of wonder. I'm growing to hate all of you already," Alpha said as soon as Rosa stepped out. "I wish the portal at Luxus had jammed and teleported you to a planet full of apes."

The students only laughed the more. Alpha who was trying to spread his hate was surprised how his statement was taken as a joke. "They are really weird, these students."

In the middle classroom, Jade Morningbolt was sitting beside Sil, his white-haired friend. He ruffled his red hair harshly, vexed at what was happening. He had just experienced a scene so disturbing as his sister standing up so boldly for a weakling such as Leo.

"What the hell is she doing with that loser? I've been patient enough with you, Rosa. I won't let you embarrass the Morningbolt family further than you've done... And you Leo will surely pay for this. I promise."
