Chapter 724: Farm field near the fortress

5th Zone, City A

Jeremy Night accepted the mission. He then left the building, walked to the front, and approached the cab. He told the cab driver to drop him at the fortress.

To reach the fortress, they had to leave through the city gate. Fortunately, the situation outside was normal.

The driver agreed to take him outside. Jeremy entered the cab and sat in the back seat. Shortly afterwards, the cab departed.

The car moved through the sky, following other vehicles toward the city gate.

The gate was not the main gate to the wilderness, but a strategic gate used for connecting human settlements.

The car reached the location a few minutes later. The guards there asked for his purpose and identity. Jeremy showed his Association ID and mission details.

Knowing he had a mission at the fortress, they allowed the car to pass.

The car went through the gate and entered the barren land outside. The barren land was located at the back of the city; there was only a long, narrow road stretching across it endlessly.

The long, narrow road led directly to the fortress. It didn’t take long for him to spot a vehicle coming toward the city.

Jeremy enjoyed the passing view through the window. It was his first time using this path. He had heard about the human settlements located near the city.

There was more than one human settlement here. Unlike others, these settlements were slightly larger in size. They had small populations and could be considered small cities.

20 minutes later,

The flying cab reached the area of the fortress. As the name suggests, the compound wall was made of black boulders.

The height of the wall was just 30 meters. It was not comparable to the city wall, but it was enough to stop lower-tier beasts.

The car landed in front of the entrance. There were people coming and going, and cars were parked outside as well. Jeremy stepped out and paid the fare.

The cab driver then left. Jeremy stood on the spot, his gaze wandering around. He then saw someone wearing a uniform coming toward him.

The middle-aged man asked, "Are you Jeremy Night?"

"I received a message from the Association that they sent someone to deal with the blood rat beasts," he added.

"Yes, that’s me," Jeremy replied.

"Good. My name is Nick. I work for the Association, but I live here. Let me take you to the field first; then you can start your mission," Nick said.

"It’s nice to meet you, Nick," Jeremy replied.

Nick led him to another four-wheeler. Jeremy entered the car, and Nick started driving the next moment.

They left the area. Jeremy was interested in the field; he had learned from the mission description that a considerable number of blood rat beasts lived in the barren land.

Their numbers had grown recently. Whenever this happened, the rat beasts would attack the farm fields outside the fortress.

Someone from the city would usually come to deal with them. This time, he had come to solve the matter. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

10 minutes later,

The car stopped in front of the green field. Jeremy Night stepped out, his gaze falling on the fields.

He used his eye ability to zoom in so he could capture more detail.

He saw that the field was completely ransacked, likely by the rat beasts. Many rotten fruits and vegetables lay on the ground, most of them half-eaten.

Jeremy then asked, "Is this the only place?"

"Yes, we have a rat beast problem here. But we have other farm fields; right now, they are safe," Nick said.

"Okay, then I’ll stay here. Thanks for your help, Nick. You can go back now," Jeremy said to him.

"Are you sure?" Nick asked. He was worried that a young Tier-3 Beast Tamer might be killed here.

"Don’t worry, I came prepared. I can protect myself," Jeremy uttered.

Only then was Nick convinced. He left the place in his four-wheeler. Once he was gone, Jeremy set his gaze on the field again.

He didn’t find a single rat beast. He thought the beasts might come at night, so he looked around and found a large tree to rest under.

He sat down beneath the tree. The sky was warm and the heat was mild, with a cooling breeze brushing past his face.

Jeremy enjoyed the feeling; he had made the right decision to come out. His mood brightened. He didn’t know why he had ignored the human settlements before.

The settlements were surrounded by vast, quiet fields. However, the environment here lacked rich natural energy; it was not very dense.

That was why the powerful corrupted beasts had left the area. Jeremy Night used his eye ability to scan the place once again.

He saw no danger around him, but he believed things would change during the night.

Time passed.

That night, Jeremy Night looked at his handgun and scabbard. He decided not to use either of them.

Using them would make it an easy kill, and he wanted to try his new attack concept: the Starlight Thread.

He had long wanted to use the Starlight Thread during a fight but hadn’t had the opportunity so far.

The corrupted beasts he had faced previously were terrifying; a small thread wouldn’t have been able to injure them.

But the rat beasts were different; their size was less than the average human height.

Jeremy Night could use Starlight against them.

Suddenly, Jeremy felt something moving ahead. He immediately used his eyes and saw a rat beast over two meters in size.

It was almost the size of a human. Jeremy confirmed the strength of the beast: it was a Tier-3 Rat Beast. He hadn’t expected to come across a Tier-3 beast right away.

If a Tier-3 beast was appearing at the front, the beasts behind it would likely be even higher tiers.

Jeremy’s expression finally grew serious. He thinks it’s not going to be an easy mission. Fortunately, he had come.

If some other Tier-3 Beast Tamer had come here, he could have faced danger.
