The Demon King is an Idiot [BL]-Chapter 108: The start of a tragic love story.
’The thrilling love story of immortal Xue Lan’, unlike the title suggested, was a tragic story.
According to the book, after cutting ties with his sect, Xue Lan wandered the mortal realm as a rogue cultivator, helping the poor and punishing evil.
One day, he traveled to a small village that was close to the western gate of the demon realm. At the time, the gate to the demon realm was closed but there were complaints from the villagers about some unnatural deaths.
In order to investigate this odd case, Xue Lan stayed in the small village called Pingyao for the next few weeks. During his stay, he met a man who called himself Quan Mu.
Quan Mu claimed to be a rogue cultivator who had come here just a few weeks before Xue Lan.
Xue Lan immediately felt attracted to the man and it was as if fate had purposefully brought them together.
The two were quite compatible and worked on the odd murder cases together.
Within just a month, they were able to catch the demonic cultivator who was killing the villagers and stealing their souls.
After having successfully solved the murder case in the Pingyao village, they decided to leave together and became almost inseparable. With time, their friendship only grew, and even after three years, they were still together.
Xue Lan enjoyed the time he spent with Quan Mu and before he realized it, he had already fallen for the man’s charms.
Under the effect of a truth lily, Xue Lan confessed his feelings to Quan Mu and was quickly rejected.
That day, the inseparable pair finally decided to break their relationship and went their own ways.
Xue Lan was overcome with grief and by the time he managed to pull himself together, Quan Mu had already disappeared.
Xue Lan was completely heartbroken but he didn’t want to lose the only friend that he had. He cared for Quan Mu far too much to let him simply walk away like that.
In the end, Xue Lan went out in search of Quan Mu and his search led him to the demon realm where Quan Mu had run off to.
After a month of desperately searching for the man, Xue Lan finally found him but... The Quan Mu he knew and the Quan Mu he found seemed to be two completely different people.
With shock quite evident on his face, he looked at Quan Mu for an explanation and Quan Mu sighed as he finally revealed his real identity.
Since the beginning itself, he had been lying to Xue Lan.
He wasn’t a rogue cultivator, he was a demon who had the ability to control spiritual Qi. He had gained this ability by consuming thousands of spiritual cores that belonged to cultivators whom he had killed.
Their first meeting was also not a coincidence or work of fate.
In the first place itself, the only reason why Quan Mu pretended to be a rogue cultivator and traveled to Pingyao was because he was interested in Xue Lan.
He had heard great tales about the rogue cultivator who left a prominent sect in order to selflessly serve the people.
As a demon, Quan Mu had met all types of righteous cultivators who pretended to be selfless and great, but in the end, he could always see right through the masks of those hypocrites who pretended to be something they were not.
When he first heard about Xue Lan, he felt that this man would also be no different from those hypocrites so he decided to follow Xue Lan around and tested him.
To his surprise, Xue Lan wore no facade and he was truly a selfless man who tirelessly worked for the people. He helped the poor, saved the weak, and punished evil.
If he had a single steamed bun left to eat, he would unhesitantly give it to a homeless child who hadn’t eaten in days.
If there was anyone deserving of the title ’Righteous cultivator’ then it was him.
Quan Mu was greatly impressed by him and wanted to get closer to Xue Lan so when he heard that Xue Lan was heading towards the Pingyao village, he went ahead and waited there for Xue Lan to appear.
He pretended as if he didn’t know Xue Lan and took the opportunity to become friends with the man.
His plan was a success—perhaps even more successful than he had planned it to be.
He managed to make Xue Lan fall in love with him and unexpectedly, in the process, he had also fallen in love with the man.
However, Quan Mu knew that their relationship was one that was based on lies.
Xue Lan didn’t know his real name nor did he know that Quan Mu was a demon.
When Xue Lan finally confessed his feelings, instead of feeling happy, Quan Mu was troubled by guilt. He finally realized that he didn’t want to keep lying to Xue Lan, but at the same time, he was also afraid that once he revealed everything, Xue Lan would come to despise him.
He was terrified by the mere thought of Xue Lan hating him for who he was and so, Quan Mu decided to run away. He ran away from Xue Lan, he ran away from his own feelings, he ran away from his fears and he ran away from the lies.
He ran away to the demon realm where he thought he would never be found. However, he had failed to realize that Xue Lan was a fearless man who would travel even to the demon realm if it meant finding the one he loved.
After revealing everything, Quan Mu and Xue Lan sat down in silence, not knowing what to say or do.
The atmosphere around them was awkward and Quan Mu still felt terrified of how Xue Lan would react. The last thing he wanted was to be hated for what he was.
After some time, Xue Lan sighed as he spoke, "I cannot forgive you for tricking me."
Quan Mu immediately felt his heart clench as he heard these words.
"But I have also not been completely honest with you so I do not think I’m the right person to judge you," Xue Lan added as he revealed, "I’m a half-demon."
Quan Mu immediately felt as if his mind had gone blank. For a few seconds, he was silent as he repeated Xue Lan’s words in his head and wondered if he had heard it right or not.
Xue Lan unsheathed his sword and sighed as he handed it over to Quan Mu as he spoke, "This sword helps me hide my demonic blood."
As soon as Quan Mu touched the sword, he understood Xue Lan’s words.
"I have never felt embarrassed of my origins and I see nothing wrong with me being born as a half-demon," Xue Lan softly smiled as he continued, " As long as one’s mind is clear and heart is free, be it a demon or a human, one would still be able to understand the greater Dao. My only purpose in life is to help and save people from danger. Whether I be a human or a demon does not change what I want to do, what I can do, and what I will do."
Unknowingly, tears formed in Quan Mu’s eyes as he heard this. He once again felt that if there was anyone under the heavens who deserved to be called a ’righteous cultivator’, it was the man sitting in front of him.
"And Quan Mu, not everything was a lie." Xue Lan slightly tilted his head with a smile as he lovingly looked at Quan Mu and spoke, "Although you introduced yourself with a fake name and hid your origin, you still showed me your true self. Our relationship might have started with a lie but everything else was definitely real. The time we spent together was enjoyable and our feelings were also true. Am I wrong?"
Tears were already flowing down Quan Mu’s eyes as he heard this and he nodded his head as he weakly muttered, "I like you... I like you a lot..."
Xue Lan smiled brightly as he heard this and asked, "Can I hug you right now?"
Quan Mu unhesitantly nodded his head and Xue Lan hugged him.
"I also want to kiss you, can I?" Xue Lan once again asked for permission.
Quan Mu nodded his head.
From that day onwards, they started dating and went back to traveling through the mortal realm as a pair of rogue cultivators. The only difference was that this time they were a pair of dual cultivators.
If the story had ended there, it would have certainly been a satisfying happy ending. However, the story continued and things only got worse.
On one unfortunate day, a rumor started spreading that the man who always accompanied Xue Lan was a demon.
Soon enough, a prominent sect of the time got involved and investigated the rumors.
Only the demon king was able to completely seal away his demonic blood and since Quan Mu was not the demon king, it was only natural that his real identity was revealed.
Fearing that Quan Mu may be harmed by the orthodox cultivators, Xue Lan ran away with the man and his reputation quickly went down.
