Chapter 113: A faster method

"The demon lord was a freshly summoned spirit. He was weak and had yet to fully restore his powers. He tried to control the boy but the boy soon grew tired of being a slave. However, you are right. It should have been impossible for the boy to kill him that easily." The demon’s eyebrows creased together and he still looked to be a little terrified as he recalled the memory, "That little boy was an absolute monster. He refused to obey the spirit and when the spirit tried to punish him, he cut the spirit into pieces and killed it without even blinking an eye."

Jie Fu Lian couldn’t help but gulp in worry as he heard this.

"I think I forgot to mention something," The demon quickly added with a small dry chuckle, "That boy was a half-demon, but he wasn’t born as a half-demon."

"Eh?"

"I told you, didn’t I? The man that I met was obsessed with finding a sacrifice that could practice the dark art of summoning spirits. The cultivation manual could be practiced by anyone but it was most beneficial to half-demons. In order to fully see what the cultivation technique was capable of, the man needed to find a half-demon but at that time, there were no half-demons and it was believed that Xue Lan was the last one."

Jie Fu Lian suddenly had a gut feeling that he would not be enjoying the next part of what the demon was going to say.

"Since he couldn’t find a half-demon, he decided to create one."

Jie Fu Lian’s gut feeling was terrifyingly accurate.

"Don’t tell me that he went and married a human to... Give birth to a half-demon?!" Jie Fu Lian questioned with a frown, strongly hoping that he was wrong.

The demon laughed as he heard this question and shook his head as he spoke, "It takes time to raise a child and if it was his, there would be a chance that he would feel pity for it. He was looking for a faster and more assured method."

"A faster method?" Hua Tianshu repeated as he asked, "How can you find a half-demon if it was never born?"

The demon’s lips curled up in a wicked smile as he spoke, "A half-demon is just a demon with the ability to control spiritual Qi. If you consume the spiritual core of more than a thousand cultivators, it is quite possible for you to form your own spiritual core and even if you were born a demon, with the power of both demonic Qi and Spiritual Qi, you’d be considered a half-demon."

Jie Fu Lian couldn’t help but remember Quan Mu as he heard this.

In ’the thrilling love story of immortal Xue Lan’, it was written that Quan Mu was also a demon with the ability to control spiritual Qi. He had gained this ability by feeding on the spiritual cores of thousands of cultivators.

Even the demon king Shen Fang had the ability to control spiritual Qi but it was never specified why he had such an ability. It was rumored that he had also gained this ability by consuming the spiritual cores of cultivators but this was never proven.

"Then... He found a random demon child and made him eat the spiritual cores of a thousand cultivators...?"

The demon nodded his head as he confirmed it. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

"That sounds like total nonsense," Jie Fu Lian immediately sneered.

The demon pursed his lips, looking unimpressed with this reaction.

"In the first place itself, how would he find the spiritual cores of a thousand cultivators? Do you think cultivators are easy to kill?" Jie Fu Lian questioned, shaking his head in disappointment, "Actually, even if he managed to kill them, would we not have found out? A thousand cultivators suddenly die and no one in the mortal realm finds out...?! Are you really asking me to believe such nonsense?"

The demon rolled his eyes as a response.

"Okay, let’s say that he really did kill a thousand cultivators and fed their spiritual core to the child. Is it even possible for the child to consume all that? If the child was a demon then I’m sure that the spiritual Qi would have fought against the demonic Qi contained inside his body."

"You’re right!" The demon suddenly exclaimed with a clap, "The child should have died after consuming those thousands of spiritual cores."

Jie Fu Lian’s eyebrows creased together as he heard this and he couldn’t help but feel as if they were listening to a madman spouting nonsense.

"But he didn’t," The demon added, a strangely wicked smirk plastered on his face, "He survived through the torture and pain. Even at death’s door, he did not give up. He kept enduring it all and in the end, he lived to practice the dark art of summoning spirits."

Jie Fu Lian scoffed as he heard this, "So you’re saying that a mere child’s willpower was enough to keep him alive? I’m sure the pain should have been worse than having your soul ripped apart and torn to shreds a million times over. You expect me to believe that he endured that with his willpower?"

"It sounds impossible, doesn’t it?" The demon sighed as he spoke, "Even I feel like it sounds impossible. If I hadn’t seen the child for myself, even I would not have believed such a strange story."

Jie Fu Lian pursed his lips as he took a deep breath in and calmed himself down before asking, "So who was he? The child?"

The demon shrugged his shoulder, "I do not know. Perhaps his parents sold him and if not, he was kidnapped. The man never told me the child’s real identity. I’m afraid even the child did not know his real name. Ah, but he did have one. I mean a fake name. The man gave him a fake name."

"A fake name?" Jie Fu Lian raised an eyebrow.

"Eye. Heaven’s eye."

Jie Fu Lian didn’t seem to have much of a reaction as he heard this name. However, Hua Tianshu’s eyes slightly widened as he realized that they had been going after the right person.

Although the story told by the demon seemed like pure nonsense, since he knew the name, there was a chance that this story actually had some truth within it.

"Is he still alive?" Jie Fu Lian questioned.

"Probably," The demon nodded his head as he replied, "There was no news of his death so he’s probably still alive."

"Hurry up," Hua Tianshu suddenly interrupted as he spoke, his voice sounding a bit anxious.

Jie Fu Lian looked at the man with a sense of worry but said nothing.

The demon chuckled as he replied, "Even if you tell me to hurry up, it’s not like I can just fast-forward the story."

"I’m not talking about the story," Hua Tianshu replied, glaring at the man as he added, "I’m talking about the pace. Hurry up and walk faster. We need to get there as soon as possible."

"..." The demon felt a little speechless but still nodded his head obediently and started walking a little faster.

"Have you heard of the master of curses?" Hua Tianshu questioned.

"I thought you wanted me to stop talking and walk faster."

"Keep talking as you walk."

"Tch-"

"Have you heard of him or not?"

"The master of curses?" The demon questioned as he took a few minutes to think about it before he spoke, "I’ve heard of him."

"Is he connected to heaven’s eye?"

The demon frowned as he heard this question and immediately replied, "Why the hell would they be connected?"

Hua Tianshu’s eyes narrowed down on the demon as he heard such an offended reaction, "Why would they not be connected?"

"Heaven’s eye is the only one who has mastered the dark art of summoning spirits. He is powerful enough to challenge even the demon king so why would he ever need the master of curses?"

"Huh?" Hua Tianshu’s eyebrows creased together in confusion.

"The master of curses is a wicked bastard who uses underhanded means to kill people. If he had confidence in his abilities and work, he would have already revealed who he was. He hides and sneaks around like a little rat. Such a person’s name being connected to Heaven’s eye is a humiliation."

"Doesn’t heaven’s eye also hide and sneak around without revealing his real identity?" Jie Fu Lian asked with a scoff.

"Heaven’s eye is better than that rat. He doesn’t kill people nor does he cause any trouble. He keeps himself hidden because he wants to live a long peaceful life. He was just an unfortunate child who became victim to a madman’s wicked game and was turned into a monster."

Jie Fu Lian lightly frowned as he heard this and thought back to the time when they had first come in contact with heaven’s eye in the witness’ memory.

The culprit had killed Bai LiuXian and tried to hide the fact that Bai LiuXian was a half-demon.

By pretending to be Jie Fu Lian, he successfully made people believe that Bai LiuXian was a normal man who was cruelly killed by Jie Fu Lian. Hence, blaming the murder on Jie Fu Lian and making people turn against him.

He managed to hit two birds with a single stone.
