Chapter 129: Shen Chao

Duan Luoyang, who was still investigating undercover in Henglong city, was conveniently forgotten by Hua Tianshu.

He had no idea that his teacher had already stopped looking for the fake copy of the art of controlling spirits nor did he know that they had stopped going after Heaven’s eye and were planning on kidnapping Jin Shifeng.

Duan Luoyang was oblivious to the plans and troubles that his Shizun and Uncle Fu were making.

He bought himself a demonic cultivator who, for the most part of it, seemed a little out of it.

The demonic cultivator was shameless and confident even when, in reality, he was weak and knew nothing of importance. However, the demonic cultivator was at least not a boring companion.

He gave his name as ’Shen Chao’ but Duan Luoyang was not sure how much he could trust the man’s words. There was no telling if the man was lying or telling the truth since he was very skilled with his words and expressions.

At first, Duan Luoyang thought he’d use the demonic cultivator to get the information that he needed but then, after spending an hour or two with the man, the only thing he wanted was to stitch the man’s lips and stop him from talking.

At first, Shen Chao was very cautious of Duan Luoyang and didn’t dare talk without being asked to talk, but then, he got comfortable real quick and in no time, he was already blabbering on about his ridiculous family history.

According to what Shen Chao had said, he was supposed to be the lost son of immortal Xue Lan and was secretly raised by the demon king, Shen Fang, who gave him his current surname.

Duan Luoyang couldn’t even laugh at this ridiculous story but he didn’t want to get into an argument with the demonic cultivator so he simply decided to nod his head, acting as if he believed everything the man told him.

Shen Chao stretched his chest out forward proudly as his arrogance grew and he continued to speak, "Not many people know this, but I have the strength to beat my uncle as well. The demon king is feared by all but in front of me, he still lowers his head and cowers."

"What about your father?" Duan Luoyang rolled his eyes as he casually asked.

"Both my fathers died before I was even born. It took many years for me to hatch out from my egg."

"You came from an egg?" Duan Luoyang raised as eyebrow and asked with a small smirk, that was almost mocking the man.

The demonic cultivator proudly nodded his head, "I was born to two men so of course I was different."

Duan Luoyang shook his head with a sigh as he heard this but said nothing as a response.

"Do you not believe me?" Shen Chao raised an eyebrow as he questioned and continued without even waiting for a response, "You can hear about me in the legends. Ask anyone knowledgable and you’ll know. However, they will either tell you that I was a myth or that I died as an egg."

"Sure~"

"You still don’t believe me?" This time, Shen Chao frowned a little and spoke, "How can I prove it to you? Ask me any question about my parents or uncle and I’ll tell you."

"I don’t want to know about your parents or uncle," Duan Luoyang sighed out as he spoke, "I want to know about the art of controlling spirits. If you’re Xue Lan’s son, shouldn’t you already have it?"

Shen Chao’s frown deepened and he sighed as he spoke, "My father died before he passed it on to me so I do not have it."

This response was already expected. The demonic cultivator didn’t even know that the art of controlling spirits was inherited directly into the mind so how could anything he’s saying be the truth. If there really was someone who was born from an egg and was the son of Xue Lan, it would be Jie Fu Lian since he was the only one who practised the art of controlling spirits.

However, Duan Luoyang knew that the story about an egg was complete nonsense. If two men really could reproduce and give birth to a child with the help of some special pills, would people not have known?

It would be a breakthrough and whoever found the method would surely use it to become rich.

"It seems that you are still doubting me," Shen Chao commented with a sigh, "In that case, let me tell you another secret. This one isn’t known by many. Actually it’s a secret that only people from our family know."

Shen Chao quickly looked around and made sure that there was no one spying on them before he leaned in closer to Duan Luoyang’s ears and whispered, "The demon king, Shen Fang actually had a brother. His brother was called Shen Qiao. He was most famously known as Quan Mu."

As soon as Duan Luoyang heard the name ’Quan Mu’ he raised his eyebrows and looked to be a little surprised as he asked, "You even know Quan Mu?"

The demonic cultivator frowned as he heard this and asked, "Why would I not know the name of my father?"

Duan Luoyang ignored the question and asked, "But who is Shen Qiao? I’m afraid I haven’t heard that name."

Shen Chao proudly smirked as he heard this question and confidently spoke, "Of course you do not know. It is a family secret."

This time, Duan Luoyang was a little interested to hear what the man had to say.

Shen Chao took a deep breath in and cleared his throat as he got ready to narrate the story that he had been desperately waiting to tell someone.

"Shen Qiao and Shen Fang were born thousands of years ago to a normal demon family. Since birth, Shen Fang was blessed with spiritual Qi and was the first demon to ever have the power to control both demonic Qi and spiritual Qi. However, his brother was born as a normal demon and had no such blessing. Since they were twins, they were often compared to one another and every time, it was Shen Fang who was complimented and Shen Qiao who was criticized."

Duan Luoyang was still not sure how much he could believe this ridiculous story but he was surely interested in it since he had never heard anything about this before.

"Shen Qiao grew jealous of his brother and when he was old and powerful enough to defeat cultivators, he attacked a small sect and completely wiped it out. He killed everyone inside the sect and ate their spiritual core before continuing on his killing spree. He killed both weak and strong cultivators to eat their spiritual core. In the end, after years of hunting, he finally managed to grow a spiritual core of his own and felt as if he was now his brother’s equal. However, he still lived in the shadow of his brother."

"When Shen Qiao had newly gained the ability to control spiritual Qi, his brother had already defeated the great four demon lords who ruled over the demon realm. Shen Fang became the new demon king and according to tradition, the demon king was not allowed to have any family, including parents and siblings. The great four demon lords who ruled before him had already murdered their own blood in order to follow tradition and Shen Fang was also expected to do the same."

Shen Chao sighed as he paused for a second and shook his head before continuing, "Shen Fang murdered his parents in cold blood but when it came to his brother who shared the same face as him, Shen Fang became a little reluctant. He spent an entire week trying to prepare himself but in the end, he was still unable to kill his brother. Shen Fang told Shen Qiao about his reluctance and Shen Qiao, who did not wish to die, gave Shen Fang an idea to fake Shen Qiao’s death."

"Using his spiritual Qi, Shen Qiao changed his appearance and entered Shen Fang’s court as a trusted advisor while Shen Fang spread the news that he had already murdered his brother and turned his corpse into ashes. Nobody questioned the truth of the situation and from that day onward, Shen Qiao became Quan Mu. Shen Qiao felt extremely grateful towards his brother who saved his life and swayed by his emotions, he confessed to Shen Fang and told him that he was always envious of him and wished to be better than him."

"Shen Fang felt a little guilty for having made his brother’s life hard and decided to help his brother live his life doing whatever he wanted without there being anyone who would dare to question him or criticize him. For the most part of it, Shen Fang was successful and Quan Mu got to live the life that he wanted, without having to constantly compete with his brother. He even fell in love with a cultivator called Xue Lan and decided to spend the rest of his life with him. Shen Fang fully supported the two."

"But things weren’t as simple as they seemed. Xue Lan was actually Shen Fang’s son!"
