The Demon King is an Idiot [BL]-Chapter 130: It can’t be him...
"Shen Fang felt a little guilty for having made his brother’s life hard and decided to help his brother live his life doing whatever he wanted without there being anyone who would dare to question him or criticize him. For the most part of it, Shen Fang was successful and Quan Mu got to live the life that he wanted without having to constantly compete with his brother. He even fell in love with a cultivator called Xue Lan and decided to spend the rest of his life with him. Shen Fang fully supported the two."
"But things weren’t as simple as they seemed. Xue Lan was actually Shen Fang’s son."
"Wait... What...?!" Duan Luoyang’s eyes widened in shock and he immediately repeated the man’s words in his head, wishing that he had heard wrong.
"Shen Fang was not exactly a nice man nor was he a good father. While he was roaming around in the mortal realm, he got involved with a beautiful woman from one of the righteous sects. The two fell in love and he impregnated her. However, he soon got bored and left her without ever knowing that she was pregnant with his child. After giving birth, the woman tried to seek him out and found out that he was actually the demon king. She met him and told him that it was too hard for her to raise their child all on her own but Shen Fang turned her away and told her that he didn’t even remember her."
Duan Luoyang’s eyes widened even more as he heard this and his lips unconsciously curled down in a frown.
"The woman couldn’t raise a half-demon all by herself and hence, she abandoned him in front of a small orphanage that was run by normal human beings. When the people in the orphanage noticed the strange things the child could do, they immediately guessed that the child was immensely talented in cultivation and sent him over to a prominent sect where he was tested for his spiritual roots. Since the child was young, the demonic Qi inside him was still not awake and hence, he could easily pass the test without revealing his secret."
"The sect took him in and taught him everything he knew. He grew up to be a good-natured, kind man who worked for the poor people who could not help themselves. He was selfless and loving. So much so that his sect later grew tired of how he wasted resources provided by the sect on the poor who had nothing to give in return. When he said he’d continue going down the truly righteous path, his sect disagreed and he left the sect."
"After leaving the sect, Xue Lan continued roaming the mortal realm as a rogue cultivator who came like a saint and saved people without ever asking for anything in turn. Certain dangerous cases that were avoided by other cultivators from prominent sects were all chosen by Xue Lan who solved the problems with ease."
"His reputation only rose with time and he became so famous that tales of him were spread even in the demon realm. Quan Mu, who came to hear such tales, grew interested in him and went out to see the man for himself. Surprisingly enough, Xue Lan managed to deeply impress him and Quan Mu grew even more attached. The two first became friends and later, lovers."
"Sadly, Quan Mu was Shen Fang’s brother and Xue Lan was Shen Fang’s son."
The story was so ridiculous that Duan Luoyang didn’t even know how he was supposed to react to it. Was he supposed to laugh or not...?
"If Shen Fang was Xue Lan’s father, shouldn’t he be your grandfather? Why do you call him your uncle?" Duan Luoyang asked, tilting his head slightly.
"Xue Lan never knew that Shen Fang was his father. Naturally, Quan Mu was also kept in the dark and never knew the connection between Xue Lan and Shen Fang. If they did know, I could only imagine the devastation on their faces. If Shen Fang never accepted Xue Lan as his son, how can I call that man my grandfather? It is better to call him my uncle."
Duan Luoyang’s eyebrows creased together and he frowned a little as he asked, "Where did you hear this story from?"
"Directly from my uncle," The demonic cultivator lied without even batting an eye.
"Tell me the truth," Duan Luoyang pressed, his voice suddenly getting a little serious.
Shen Chao side glanced at Duan Luoyang and gulped as he heard the man’s serious tone. He contemplated for a moment before he spoke, "I came to overhear it from the demon king."
"Overhear it? How?" Duan Luoyang questioned, feeling suspicious.
Shen Chao sighed as he finally stopped pretending and spoke, "You should’ve just told me you caught onto my lies. Why did you act as if you believed me? I thought I could trick you and get away with it."
Duan Luoyang glared at the man and ignored his words as he repeated his question, "How did you come to overhear this? And from where?"
Shen Chao scratched the back of his neck as he spoke, "When I was little, I was kidnapped by a demon. Actually, there were many more people that were kidnapped along with me but I was the only child among them. I came to know that everyone else who was kidnapped together with me, was killed and their blood was used to feed the demon king. Since I was a child, they did not kill me but they did not let me go either. The demon king found me interesting, saying that I reminded him of his grandson. I was adopted as a pet by the demon king but of course, that only lasted for a few days."
Shen Chao paused as he recalled the traumatic memory and sighed, "As a pet, I was kept in a small cage that was placed in the demon king’s room. I was stuffed into a corner and my cage was covered with a cloth. For a time, I think they forgot I even existed. I was forgotten there and as a scared child, I dare not make any noise. The demon king was blabbering on the story about his son and grandson to somebody. That was when I came to overhear it."
Shen Chao’s words truly shocked Duan Luoyang. This time, the man didn’t seem to be lying. Every word he spoke was the truth and that was what truly shocked Duan Luoyang.
If what he was saying was true, then the demon king really was Xue Lan’s father and Xue Lan really did have a son...!
This was shocking news!
Duan Luoyang felt the urgent need to report this back to Hua Tianshu. Even if it was irrelevant to their case, he had a feeling that Hua Tianshu would appreciate the information.
Suddenly, another thought crossed Duan Luoyang’s mind: If Xue Lan really had a son... Who else could it be except for Jie Fu Lian who was the only one who practiced the art of controlling spirits...?!
As soon as the thought crossed Duan Luoyang’s mind, his muscles grew stiff and he stopped walking. With a dazed look on his face, he stood there like a defenseless tree.
Shen Chao waved his hand in front of the man’s face and woke him up from whatever trance he was in.
"What happened?" Shen Chao asked, feeling a little worried.
"Shen Chao... That child, Xue Lan’s child... Did you hear who he was?" Duan Luoyang desperately questioned, his eyes a little teary.
Shen Chao gulped as he heard this question and shook his head as he spoke, "I’m sorry but I did not hear his name. Is his name important?"
Duan Luoyang pursed his lips into a thin line but said nothing.
"But I have a guess," Shen Chao quickly added.
"A guess?"
Shen Chao bobbed his head up and down as he spoke, "Xue Lan’s son would be able to inherit the art of controlling spirits and till now, immortal Jie Fu Lian is the only one who is known to practice that certain technique. Additionally, he was a half-demon and was adopted by the Yan sect’s sect master so who else could it be? It was definitely him."
Shen Chao thought the man would be happy to hear this, but contrary to his expectations, Duan Luoyang’s frown deepened and he looked as if he could kill someone just by glaring at them.
Shen Chao shivered at the sight and took a step back as he cautiously asked, "Is there a problem?"
"It can’t be him..." Duan Luoyang shook his head as he muttered to himself, "It can’t be him... It shouldn’t be him..."
He constantly muttered to himself, chanting the same words as if saying it a hundred times would make it come true.
"Why does it always have to be him...?" Duan Luoyang muttered out a question as tears started flowing down his cheeks, "Our pitiful young master..."
