What had she gained?

When put in words, absolutely nothing.

In fact, she had lost much more than what she had gained.

The first time she asked herself this question was precisely the day Yu Wei died and that was when she really realized how the freedom she thought she was gaining was nothing more than a dream that had trapped her in a different kind of a jail.

"Jin Shifeng, we don’t need to be on opposite sides," Jie Fu Lian softly spoke as he looked at her, "If you join hands with me, I’ll help you avenge your secret lover and I’ll also help you get that freedom you longed for."

Jin Shifeng scoffed as she heard this and asked, "Are you trying to manipulate me?"

Jie Fu Lian innocently smiled as he heard this but said nothing as a response.

On the thirteenth day, Jin Shifeng returned to the Jin Sect and Jin Long could finally sigh in relief.

On the fourteenth day, the HuiXue sect received all the evidence that had been collected against the Jin Sect.

On the fifteenth day, the HuiXue sect officially released news about the reinvestigation and the Jin Sect was thrown under fire. On the same day, Duan Luoyang also came back from Henglong and he was accompanied by the demonic cultivator Shen who had latched onto him like a poor puppy that had been abandoned by its mother.

Now that the HuiXue sect had decided to stand up against the Jin Sect, all the other sects that were unhappy with the Jin Sect also joined in and stood with the HuiXue sect, openly showing their support.

Under a lot of pressure, Jin Long stepped down from his position and Jin Gengxin was forced to come out of seclusion.

As expected, with definite proof against the wrongful investigation done by the Jin Sect, the reinvestigation ended against the Jin Sect’s favor.

Till the end, Jin Gengxin claimed to be innocent. He said he was uninvolved and knew nothing. However, nobody believed him and he was arrested by the HuiXue sect.

On the eighteen day, Hua Tianshu and Jie Fu Lian were sent to the Jin Sect in order to arrest Jin Long but by the time they reached the Jin Sect, Jin Long had already run away along with both the master of curses and Jin Shifeng.

This was to be expected and Jie Fu Lian only laughed as he immediately headed out to Shi Cheng where Bai Baoshi died.

He was accompanied by Hua Tianshu, Duan Luoyang, the demonic cultivator Shen and Elder Ren from the Yu Sect.

When the results of the reinvestigation were brought to light, the Yu Sect also joined hands with the HuiXue sect and notified them that they would be the ones to arrest Jin Shifeng and interrogate her about her involvement in the case. Sect Master Quan agreed to their demand but he never actually planned on handing Jin Shifeng over to them.

"But why Shi Cheng?" Elder Ren asked as she curiously looked at Jie Fu Lian.

With a smile, Jie Fu Lian spoke, "That is where Bai BaoShi was killed. It’s a place that we would not think to visit since it has no direct relation with them.

"Didn’t you say that the Jin Sect was not involved with Heaven’s eye?" Duan Luoyang asked, feeling a little confused.

"I did say that but it seems like the two do have a connection but not one that we could have guessed," Jie Fu Lian sighed as he spoke, "Bai BaoShi knew that Jie Fu Lian was innocent and if she spoke up as a witness, it would lead to people finding the real murderer and the Jin Sect did not want that. Those scumbags only wanted to push everything on me."

"Me?"

Jie Fu Lian coughed as he quickly corrected himself, "Jie Fu Lian. I mean they pushed everything onto Jie Fu Lian and in order to bury the truth, they killed Bai BaoShi. Shi Cheng is the place where Jin Long met Jin Shifeng for the first time."

"Who told you that?" The demonic cultivator called Shen also joined in as he curiously questioned.

Jie Fu Lian gave a small smirk as he spoke, "Ren Lei."

Shen Chao didn’t know who Ren Lei was nor did he know what Jie Fu Lian had planned so the name naturally did not give him any hints and he didn’t feel like asking either so he shut his mouth and simply nodded his head.

"Uncle Fu, how did you get her to help?" Duan Luoyang asked, slightly raising his eyebrows in surprise.

Ren Lei was the only disciple of Elder Tai Ho and from how she had treated them last time, it didn’t seem like she would be willing to work with them.

"I worked my charm and she immediately fell for it," Jie Fu Lian playfully responded and by now, Duan Luoyang had already gotten used to the man’s odd behavior so he didn’t even cringe at this response.

"He begged Elder Tai Ho to let her join us," Hua Tianshu spoke right after, revealing the real reason why Ren Lei was working with them.

"But how does Ren Lei know where Jin Long is hiding?" Duan Luoyang questioned.

Jie Fu Lian thinly smiled as he heard this question but never gave a verbal response and this time, Hua Tianshu also stayed silent, refusing to say anything.

Ignored by the two, Duan Luoyang could only frown as he followed after them and Shen Chao patted his back in an attempt to comfort him.

Duan Luoyang, however, was not comforted in the least.

When they reached the house inside Shi Cheng where Jin Long was said to be hiding, Jie Fu Lian was the first one to burst in without even bothering to knock on the door.

Inside the house, Jin Shifeng was the only one sitting there, waiting for them.

As soon as she saw Jie Fu Lian, Jin Shifeng rolled her eyes, feeling quite annoyed as she spoke, "You’re late."

With a frown on his face, Jie Fu Lian matched her rudeness as he asked, "Where did he go?"

"He went out with the master of curses. It seems that he is a bit suspicious of me. He could’ve used the chance to run away."

"And you didn’t follow after him?" 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

"Why would I? It’s not like I’m being paid to do this. You told me to report where he was going to hide and I did exactly what you asked."

Jie Fu Lian frowned but said nothing.

When Elder Ren and Duan Luoyang saw Jin Shifeng, they couldn’t help but feel extremely confused and shocked.

"Is she working with us?" Duan Luoyang immediately questioned, looking at Jie Fu Lian with his eyes wide open.

"I’ll arrest her first!" Exclaimed Elder Ren.

"You can’t arrest her," Jie Fu Lian spoke with a sigh as he revealed, "She isn’t the real Jin Shifeng."

"What...?!" Duan Luoyang, Elder Ren, and Shen Chao asked in unison.

Duan Luoyang and Elder Ren were genuinely shocked and confused but Shen Chao was only going along with the flow and copying their reaction for the sake of it.

’Jin Shifeng’ took off the necklace that she was wearing and as soon as she did so, her entire appearance changed in the blink of an eye. From Jin Shifeng, she turned into Ren Lei.

"How is this possible...?!" Duan Luoyang stumbled a step back as he questioned.

"Elder Tai Ho created a special necklace for her," Jie Fu Lian revealed as he spoke, "Jin Shifeng wasn’t willing to cooperate so we had Elder Tai Ho lock her up and made a necklace that could copy her appearance and accordingly change the wearer’s appearance."

"It’s not a big deal for the old man," Ren Lei proudly spoke with a sigh as she stood up.

"Then where is the real Jin Shifeng?" Elder Ren questioned with a frown, not feeling happy with the fact that Jie Fu Lian had kept this a secret till now and wasted her time.

Jie Fu Lian smiled as he looked at the woman and said nothing.

"You do not need to know that for now," Hua Tianshu spoke up, responding instead of Jie Fu Lian.

"Let’s go out and search for Jin Long. If we are lucky, he wouldn’t have left Shi Cheng," Jie Fu Lian immediately spoke as he ordered out, "Duan Luoyang and Little Shen can take the east, Ren Lie and Elder Ren can take the south, Hua Tianshu can take the west and I’ll take the south. If we are fast enough, we’ll definitely catch them."

Everybody nodded their heads as they heard this and headed out in their designated directions. At least, everyone except for Hua Tianshu who stayed behind.

"What is it?"

"I’ll go with you."

Jie Fu Lian lightly smiled as he heard this and asked, "Can’t even leave my side for a minute? Hua Tianshu, you sure are clingy."

Hua Tianshu did not deny it and simply nodded his head as he spoke, "We’ll search the south together, and then we’ll go search the west."

Jie Fu Lian nodded his head, agreeing.
