Chapter 165: Another memory

The walls suddenly started closing up on him, with the full intention to crush him in between.

Hua Tianshu, who could not even use his spiritual energy quickly grabbed the protruding rocks on the walls and climbed up to safety only to realize that the sandstorm had gotten closer to him.

Without getting a moment to catch his breath, Hua Tianshu was forced to once again run for his life.

It didn’t take him long to realize that he was being rejected by the demon king’s mind that had noticed his presence.

Suddenly, Hua Tianshu tripped on a rock and fell forward, face-planting on the ground.

He thought this was it for him. Even if he managed to push himself up and ran, he would still not be able to avoid getting caught up in that damned sandstorm.

Suddenly, he remembered Jie Fu Lian and he couldn’t help but wonder how nice it would have been to have Jie Fu Lian by his side in his final moments.

Perhaps the heavens had heard his prayers ’cause in the very next moment, Hua Tianshu felt a hand grabbing his wrist and pulling him away to safety.

Hua Tianshu immediately tried to look at the person’s face but due to the darkness, he couldn’t even see his own hands, much less the face of the person that had saved him.

However, although he could not see the person’s face, he felt that the warmth emitted by the person who was holding his wrist was familiar and he immediately muttered out, "Jie Ming...?"

He did not get a response to that and the two continued to run.

When they were away from the sandstorm, Hua Tianshu felt the person’s hold on his wrist loosening and he once again asked, almost sure that he was right, "You’re Jie Ming, aren’t you?"

Once again, the person did not give a response as he heard this and instead, let go of Hua Tianshu’s hand.

Hua Tianshu slightly frowned as he tried to grab the person’s hand, but unfortunately, all he was able to grab was thin air.

The person had come out of nowhere like the wind and disappeared just the same way.

Hua Tianshu knew that his time was running out.

The demon king’s mind had already noticed his presence and was rejecting his primordial soul. If he continued to waste time, he would surely be putting both himself and Jie Fu Lian in danger.

"Jie Ming!" Hua Tianshu called out loudly as he continued to run around, aimlessly searching for the man.

"Jie Ming, you are here, aren’t you?"

"Jie Ming, please come out."

"I’m worried about you."

"Jie Ming!"

No matter how loud he called out the man’s name, he received no response from Jie Fu Lian.

In the end, Hua Tianshu bumped against something that he presumed to be a wall. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂

With a small frown on his face, Hua Tianshu touched the wall as he tried to figure out what this wall was made up of.

It was rough and hard to touch, but at the same time, it did not resemble a normal wall.

The texture of the wall reminded him of scales.

When the wall slightly moved, Hua Tianshu immediately jerked back as he realized how dangerous his actions had been.

It wasn’t a wall, it was an animal. In fact, calling it an animal was also a bit inaccurate since normal animals were not this huge.

Hua Tianshu immediately got ready to run away, thinking that this monster was going to be dangerous for him, however, stopped after taking just a few steps back.

Unlike the sandstorm that tried to kill him, the ditch that appeared out of nowhere, the walls that tried to crush him, and the stone that tripped him, this monster did not do anything to harm him just yet.

Hua Tianshu gulped as he once again took a few steps closer to the monster and put his hand on the monster’s scaly skin.

The monster flinched at his touch but did not try to harm him.

Hua Tianshu gently stroked the monster’s skin as he asked, "Have you seen Jie Ming around?"

The monster naturally did not give a response and moved a little.

Hua Tianshu gulped as he kept stroking the monster and tried to figure out what this monster was.

Surprisingly enough, it didn’t take him long to guess that this monster was a snake monster.

"What are you doing here?" Hua Tianshu asked, seeming as if he was hoping for the monster to give him a reply.

The snake slightly moved away from Hua Tianshu without saying anything.

Hua Tianshu immediately followed after it as he asked, "Have you seen Jie Ming around? I’m looking for him."

The snake once again moved away without saying anything.

"I know that I’m disturbing you but you are the only one I can ask," Hua Tianshu sighed as he once again chased after the snake monster, "I have to find him. If you know anything, please tell me."

The snake grew so annoyed by Hua Tianshu that it no longer continued to ignore him. Instead, it wrapped its tail around Hua Tianshu’s body and picked him up as it looked at the man with its fiery red eyes.

Hua Tianshu felt that those red eyes looked oddly familiar and felt a little hesitant as he questioned, "Jie Ming... Is that you...?"

As a response, the snake hissed angrily.

"You aren’t Jie Ming...?" Hua Tianshu asked, slightly tilting his head in confusion.

The snake gave a small nod.

"Then..." Hua Tianshu gulped as he hesitated a little before questioning, "Who are you?"

The snake gave no response and simply kept staring back at Hua Tianshu expectantly.

Hua Tianshu gulped in disbelief as he asked, "Are you... Shen Fang?"

The snake gave a nod.

Hua Tianshu was left shocked at this sudden turn of events and had a lot of questions and doubts running wild in his mind.

"Weren’t you already dead?" Hua Tianshu frowned as he questioned.

The snake once again nodded its head.

"Then what are you?"

The snake said nothing and kept looking back at Hua Tianshu with an innocent gaze.

Hua Tianshu sighed as he tried to make sense of the situation and questioned, "Then are you the remnants of his soul?"

The snake hissed—meaning ’no’.

Hua Tianshu gulped as he once again guessed, "Then are you memory?"

The snake nodded its head.

Suddenly, the snake let go of Hua Tianshu, quietly putting him back down on the ground.

"Are you the one who made me see those memories that belonged to Shen Fang?"

The snake nodded its head.

Hua Tianshu couldn’t help but feel a little impressed. He had heard tales of how a person could have all their seven souls destroyed but still survive as nothing more than just a memory that refused to disappear.

He already knew that the demon king was an extremely talented and strong person, but he never knew that the man was so impressive that he managed to keep himself alive with just the fragments of his memories.

"Do you know where Jie Ming is?" Hua Tianshu immediately asked, knowing that this snake monster would definitely be able to help him.

The snake suddenly hissed loudly, looking extremely unhappy at this question.

Hua Tianshu’s eyebrows creased together as he saw this reaction and he tried his best to keep his calm as he asked, "You don’t want me to know?"

The snake nodded its head.

"Are you trying to protect him?"

The snake once again nodded its head.

Hua Tianshu lightly smiled as he saw this and spoke, "What a coincidence. I am also trying to protect him."

The snake’s pupils seemed to have grown a little bigger as it heard this and the creature looked to be greatly interested in what Hua Tianshu had to say.

"But in order to protect him, I need to first help him get out of here," Hua Tianshu sighed, trying to convince the snake monster, "He is probably in a lot of pain right now and I do not wish to let him suffer like this. Please help me find him."

The snake did not give an immediate response and instead, it almost seemed as if the snake was deeply thinking about something as it heard Hua Tianshu’s words.

After a minute or so, the snake finally opened its mouth and asked, "What is your name?"

"My name is Hua Tianshu."

The snake nodded its head, "Hua Tianshu, why are you trying to help him?"

Hua Tianshu smiled as he heard this question and honestly answered, admitting his feelings as he spoke, "I want to help him because I love him. There is no other grand reason behind it. I just love him and I want to see the person that I love, live a safe and happy life."

The snake slightly tilted its head as it heard this and repeated in confusion like an innocent child, "Love? Why do you love him?"

"There is no reason," Hua Tianshu spoke, "He is Jie Fu Lian and that’s why I love him."
