Chapter 56: Cracks

Terry spent the next day resting, and then when night came, he crossed the portal and headed to the enemy’s base. Just as he had expected, the nights were pretty cold in the desert. Still, he ignored that... even though he saw some signs of ice forming around, he didn’t feel that bad, thanks to his magic resistance.

As night falls, the temperature in the desert plummets, descending to levels that belie the fiery embrace of the sun that ruled the day. The arid air, deprived of the sun’s radiant warmth, surrenders its heat to the surrounding atmosphere. The rapid cooling sets the stage for the delicate dance of condensation and crystallization.

As the air cools, it reaches its dew point, the temperature at which it can no longer retain the moisture it holds during the day. This moisture, previously absorbed by the parched desert soil and plants, now rises as invisible vapor, seeking refuge in the frigid heights above.

As the invisible vapor ascends, it encounters more relaxed air, acting as a catalyst for change. The moisture begins to condense, transforming from an ephemeral gas into tiny water droplets suspended in the air. These minuscule droplets dance and swirl, carried by gentle breezes that traverse the desert night.

But the transformation does not end there. The water droplets undergo a magnificent metamorphosis as the temperature continues to plummet. The cold air wraps its icy embrace around the droplets, coaxing them into a solid state. Each droplet surrenders to the chill, freezing into delicate crystals of ice.

Putting science aside, Terry arrived at the enemy’s camp and could see from a distance that things had gotten quiet. Still, there were a bunch of campfires around that were being guarded by sentinels as well. Ambushing them would be hard since they seemed wide awake.

His eyes, sharp and focused, scanned the perimeter, analyzing the fortifications and the positioning of sentries. His mind calculated the potential vulnerabilities, seeking the chink in the enemy’s armor. This weak spot could be exploited to turn the tide in their favor.

Silently, Terry moved through the shadows, his footsteps careful and deliberate. His movements were fluid, blending seamlessly with the darkness as if he were a phantom traversing the night.

As he weaved through tents and makeshift structures, Terry remained vigilant, his senses attuned to the slightest hint of danger. He listened intently, discerning the murmur of hushed conversations, the rustle of armor, and the occasional soft snore of a weary soldier. Each sound provided valuable insight into the enemy’s state of readiness and allowed Terry to gauge their level of preparedness.

As Terry neared the enemy camp, a realization crept into his mind like a whisper of caution. He surveyed the scene before him, the guards patrolling with heightened alertness and the looming presence of fortified structures. It became apparent that his stealthy approach had reached its limit—any further movement would risk exposing his presence.

Terry’s eyes narrowed, his gaze moving between the obstacles that lay ahead. He weighed the options, the consequences of retreating or pushing forward. Time was of the essence, and the urgency of the situation pressed upon him.

A surge of determination coursed through Terry’s veins, dispelling any trace of doubt. He knew that the element of surprise was slipping away, that the enemy would soon become aware of his presence. The window of opportunity was narrowing rapidly, leaving him with a decision to make.

In the face of uncertainty, Terry abandoned stealth and embraced a more audacious approach. Once alerted, he knew that the enemy would mobilize their forces and reinforce their defenses. His chances of exploiting their weaknesses from within would diminish with each passing moment.

With a resolute expression etched upon his face, Terry steeled himself for what lay ahead. He tightened his fists, ready to confront the threat head-on. There was no room for hesitation or second-guessing—he had to seize the initiative and disrupt the enemy’s plans before they had a chance to fully consolidate their position.

As he gathered his resolve, Terry’s mind brimmed with strategies and tricks. He visualized the path he would take, the obstacles he would overcome, and the adversaries he would face. He knew that his charge would be met with fierce resistance, but he refused to waver in the face of adversity.

With a surge of adrenaline, Terry surged forward, his movements swift and purposeful. He relied on his agility and combat prowess, evading enemy attacks with deft maneuvers and retaliating with calculated strikes. The air crackled with intensity as his presence ignited a frenetic energy within the enemy camp.

With a kick on the ground, Terry crossed dozens of meters and reached the first sentinels; the enemies barely had the chance to react to him when he punched their faces and cracked their skulls.

As the lifeless bodies of the enemies had fallen in the area, a palpable tension filled the air. The enemy soldiers, though initially focused on their guard duties, suddenly became acutely aware of a new presence. This scent stirred their primal instincts and sent shivers down their spines. The unmistakable smell of blood.

Whispers of unease circulated among the enemy ranks as they caught whiffs of the metallic tang carried on the wind. It was a scent that carried with it a haunting message—a message of danger and imminent peril. The realization settled upon them like a heavy fog, casting a shadow of uncertainty over their once-confident demeanor.

Though Terry had dispatched their allies with silent precision, his actions had not gone unnoticed. The enemies, their senses heightened by the scent of blood, now questioned the security of their position. Their eyes darted nervously, searching for any sign of the unseen enemy who had breached their lines undetected.

The enemies looked as nervous as they could be since that never happened to them... the open field around them mainly worked as a good way to detect enemies, but now it was being used against them. Their shock was only natural...
