Everyone froze when he finished speaking.

Charles Reed frowned. "Walker, didn’t you hear what Sunny said?"

Walker Grant’s thumb stroked the back of Chloe Reed’s hand. He then looked at Charles Reed and said, "Dad, it’s late. This isn’t the time to discuss this. I’ll take Chloe home to rest. We’ll come see Mom tomorrow morning."

His gaze then shifted to Sunny Reed’s face, his eyes darkening slightly. "You left in a hurry. Where’s Noah?" 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮

Sunny Reed’s mouth fell open, unable to react for a moment.

’After all I just said, he’s only concerned about Noah Grant?’

But she couldn’t show how flustered and angry she was. She could only compose herself and say, "Noah was already asleep when I left."

"Go back," Walker said calmly. "If Noah wakes up and doesn’t see you, he’ll be frightened and start crying. He’s only three; you need to look after him more."

Sunny Reed bit her lip. "But... my mom is still in a coma..."

"She won’t wake up just because you’re standing watch. In fact, you’ll just disturb her rest," Walker’s tone grew colder.

An invisible pressure emanated from him, making the atmosphere even more frigid than before. No one dared to argue.

Walker then took Chloe’s hand and left the hospital room.

This time, she didn’t struggle.

A complex, cold glint flashed in Walker’s eyes, but it vanished as quickly as it appeared.

Chloe Reed was certain she was the one who had saved Walker Grant.

But she didn’t trust Walker Grant.

He was so good to Sunny Reed, and to her child.

’What if he started to doubt me?’

’If he denied her sacrifice, what would she do?’

Outside the hospital, the night wind was chilling. The cold seeped through her skin, and she couldn’t help but shiver.

The car was parked right at the hospital entrance.

Walker opened the passenger door. Looking at her, he said, "Get in."

Chloe pressed her lips together, her gaze complex as she looked at him.

Once he was in the car, she finally spoke. "You believe what she said?"

Walker started the car. "We’ll find out once we look into it," he said, his tone mild.

"Walker Grant!"

Chloe finally lost her composure. She stared at him in disbelief. "You’re going to investigate it? You think I’m lying?"

Walker glanced at her. "If you’re not lying, then what are you afraid of?"

"I’m not afraid, I’m disappointed!" Chloe corrected, her eyes turning red. "I can’t believe you don’t trust me. That you’re actually going to investigate it. We were both there. Don’t you know whether or not I saved you?"

The atmosphere in the car became even more tense than it had been in the hospital room.

Walker remained silent, and Chloe’s heart felt as if it were being squeezed by a giant, invisible hand.

She bit her lip, struggling to keep her emotions in check.

Not until the car stopped at the entrance to her apartment complex.

His magnetic voice finally broke the silence. "Chloe, I was unconscious. I have no idea who actually saved me."

Chloe went rigid.

Her expression went blank for a moment as she, too, remembered.

’That’s right.’

’When she’d found him, he’d already been crushed by a stone slab. No matter how she called out to him, he hadn’t responded.’

’He really was unconscious.’

’So, it was only natural for him to have doubts.’

’But she just couldn’t accept it.’

’That stone slab had been so heavy. She had used every last ounce of her strength, her hands scraped raw and her face covered in grime. Rocks, dirt, and splintered wood had rained down around her, but she hadn’t cared. She had only stared at him, focused on nothing but getting him out.’
