Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 364: Don’t Tell Her
Chloe Reed ran into Preston Vance downstairs when she returned home.
"Chloe, you don’t look so good. Are you feeling sick?" Preston Vance asked with concern, a dog leash still in his hand.
Chloe Reed nodded. "Yeah, I have a cold."
Preston Vance said, "I’m making a soup that everyone says is amazing for when you’re sick. Would you like some?"
"That amazing, huh?"
Chloe Reed raised her eyebrows in surprise.
A slight smile touched Preston Vance’s lips. "You could give it a try."
"Sure."
Chloe Reed really was craving some soup.
Whenever she used to get sick, Walker Grant would always find ways to coax her into eating. He had even learned to make soup just to whet her appetite.
She had loved the way it tasted.
She lowered her gaze, pushing aside the jumble of thoughts in her mind.
Preston Vance said, "You head on home and wait. I’ll be over soon."
"Okay, thank you, Preston." Chloe Reed curved her lips into a small smile.
"Don’t be so formal with me. Go on home now."
...
When Chloe Reed pushed the door open and walked in, she saw her grandmother sitting on the living room sofa, her face etched with worry and anxiety.
"Grandma."
Chloe Reed walked over and gave her grandmother a quick hug before immediately backing away to stand about fifteen feet from her.
Her grandmother froze. She hadn’t even had a chance to get a good look at her, and Chloe was already standing so far away.
"Why are you so far away? Come here, let me have a look at you."
But Chloe Reed shook her head. "I can’t. I have a cold, and I can’t risk getting you sick. I’m already feeling much better, so please don’t worry about me. I’m going to my room now. Let’s just stay apart for a few days, and I’ll come find you once I’m all better."
With that, she turned and went into her room.
Her grandmother was speechless.
’That girl...’
Aunt Lewis explained, "Miss Reed is just worried about your health."
It hadn’t been long since her grandmother’s surgery. If she were to get sick now, it could very well lead to other complications.
Her grandmother nodded, then immediately asked, "About last night... Does she know?"
Aunt Lewis shook her head. "When she first woke up, she was just staring into space. I thought she knew, but after we talked for a bit, I realized she has no idea."
She looked hesitant and asked, "Ma’am, should we tell her? It wasn’t us who took her to the hospital last night."
The old woman thought for a moment before saying, "Let’s not. Since the two of them have already decided to separate, what’s the point in telling her? The foundation of their relationship is broken. No matter what, it’s unlikely things can ever go back to the way they were."
Aunt Lewis nodded. "Yes, I understand."
Besides, after they got to the hospital last night, that man had specifically told her not to tell Chloe. She didn’t understand it, but she was just a housekeeper. Her job was simply to do as she was told.
...
「An hour later.」
Preston Vance knocked on the door, holding a thermal food container.
Aunt Lewis greeted him with a small smile. "Oh, it’s you. Miss Reed is resting at the moment."
Preston Vance handed her the container. "Then please make sure she drinks this when she wakes up."
Aunt Lewis took it. "Of course. Thank you, Mr. Vance."
Preston Vance asked, "Is Grandma resting?"
"No," Aunt Lewis shook her head. "She’s watching television."
Preston Vance said, "I’ll go keep Grandma company for a bit."
"Of course. Please, come in."
The old woman was a little surprised to see Preston Vance, but when she learned he had come specially to deliver soup, a warm smile spread across her face.
"That’s so thoughtful of you. I’ll make sure to remind her to drink it when she wakes up."
