Chapter 81: Chapter 81: Walker Grant Ignored Chloe Reed

Sunny Reed’s alarmed voice rang out. "Walker, are you okay?"

Walker Grant’s expression soured. He stared at the car’s taillights until they vanished from sight.

Sunny Reed said with a look of self-reproach, "I should have just waited upstairs for my sister. If we had gone to see Noah together, she wouldn’t have misunderstood."

Walker Grant averted his gaze, his handsome face impassive. "Get in the car first."

"Okay."

"..."

Chloe Reed felt her luck today was absolutely terrible!

’Next time, I absolutely, *absolutely* have to check for a more auspicious day before leaving the house!’

Not long after she drove off, the car’s engine suddenly died. It stopped by the roadside, immediately causing a traffic jam. She got out, braving the rain to check the front and back of the car, but couldn’t find what was wrong.

She looked around, bewildered, only to see Walker Grant’s car driving by at that very moment.

She gritted her teeth and waved at his car.

’Maybe he can take a look and see what’s wrong with my car.’

But to her surprise, the car didn’t even slow down. It drove right past her.

Chloe Reed’s arm froze in midair. Rain pelted down on her, chilling her to the bone.

Her eyes were dazed, but more than that, they were filled with disbelief.

’That bastard.’

’He saw me like this and just ignored me?’

Chloe Reed bit her lip, wiped her face, and got back into her car, retracting her gaze. She then dialed the number for a repair shop.

By the time she hung up, she had calmed down.

’Why did I even have to ask him for help?’

’Why didn’t I just make the call in the first place?’

’What hope was I still holding out for him?’

The look in Chloe Reed’s eyes grew colder and colder, finally settling into a calm resolve.

"..."

As they drove out of the garage, Sunny Reed immediately spotted Chloe Reed’s car in the distance. It was stopped by the side of the road with its hazard lights flashing, seemingly in some kind of trouble.

A moment later, Chloe Reed opened the car door, got out, and began inspecting the front and back.

Sunny Reed subconsciously glanced at Walker Grant beside her.

His eyes were lowered, focused on the documents on his lap. His expression was exceptionally serious, and he didn’t look up.

Just then, she saw Chloe Reed wave at them. The driver was about to say something when Sunny Reed suddenly spoke up. "Walker, I really have to thank you for helping me get this job."

Without raising his head, Walker Grant said, "Didn’t you say you wanted to smooth things over with her? How did it go today?"

Sunny Reed sighed immediately. "My sister’s misunderstanding of me runs too deep. I tried talking to her, but she just ignored me completely."

Then, she put on a smile again. "But it’s okay. I’ll prove with my actions that everything in the past was just a misunderstanding. We’ll eventually bury the hatchet."

"Mm."

Walker Grant grunted in acknowledgment and glanced up toward the road ahead.

By then, the car was already far away.

Sunny Reed lowered her gaze slightly, concealing the thoughts in her eyes.

Chloe Reed arrived home soaking wet and immediately boiled herself a bowl of ginger soup to drink.

’I absolutely cannot catch a cold right now. If something happens to my throat, how will I be able to work?’

After a hot shower and drinking the ginger soup, she managed to drive away the chill. She then picked up her script to study it.

Just then, her phone rang. A glance at the screen showed it was a call from Judith Pierce.

"Hello."

Judith Pierce’s gentle voice came through the line. "Chloe, how was your first day at work?"

Chloe Reed replied, "It was pretty average."

Judith sounded surprised. "Why do you say that?"

Chloe Reed leaned back. "Because Sunny Reed was there, constantly hovering around me."

"How is that possible?" Judith Pierce retorted instinctively. "I already made arrangements to have her fired."

Chloe Reed’s eyes flickered. "But she’s still there. Mom, the people at that company are just paying you lip service."
