I let out a sharp gasp as I struggled to breathe, the air all around me scorchingly hot and shimmering violently, as I send a couple dozen or so of my blades shooting towards the Monster girl.

She easily evaded them, zipping around the air to dodge them before shooting a rapid, swirling fireball down towards me.

As the flames roared towards me viciously, I quickly gathered about twenty of my blades in front of myself, forming a wall to block the flames.

I grimaced as the fireball collided with my wall of blades, streaks of hot air erupting out and hitting me, stinging my skin as sweat poured down my face profusely.

I sent more blades chasing after her, but it was no use, she had no trouble dodging them, before shooting out a couple more fireballs down towards me, which hit my wall of blades, bursts of hot air erupting upon impact.

Damn it...she’s undoubtedly significantly faster and more powerful than she was last time. Even though I’ve gotten stronger myself since then, the gap between us has only widened despite that.

But...she’s also clearly holding back, and by a lot.

If she wanted to kill me, I’d already be dead by now, and her last attack was clearly aimed right at my wall of blades, she could’ve easily tried to shoot them above the wall and try to hit me, but she wasn’t aiming at me at all.

No, that’s not quite it...it’s more like she’s taking care to hold back enough to avoid killing me, going out of her way to do so. Why?

Wait...no, don’t tell me...

I then turned my back towards her and began to run away in the direction of the castle...before abruptly halting as she fired out a blast of flames at the ground a few meters in front of me. Yeah, no doubt about it...

"I get it now...this is a diversion, isn’t it?" I realized with a grimace.

"H-huh? No, I have no idea what you’re talking about, it must be your imagination," She responded a bit nervously, confirming my suspicion. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

"What are you really after!? The King!?" I snapped, my head starting to spin from the heat.

"Hm? Uh...yeah, that’s right, looks like you figured it out!" She replied, before firing out a wave of blue flames towards me from her mouth.

Okay, so she isn’t after the King...

I quickly blocked it by forming another wall of blades in front of myself, my knees buckling as I began to get dizzy from the heat, struggling more and more to breathe with every passing second.

Th-this is bad, I’m getting so lightheaded, I’m not sure how much longer I can maintain my Soul Weapon Ascension at this rate, it’s taking all my strength just to stay standing at this point.

Even though she’s clearly trying to avoid killing me for some reason, if this keeps up, it’ll be a matter of minutes before I...I...

"Now, open, Gravity Dimension," A chant echoed out, the Monster girl swiftly flying back instinctively in response.

"It’s about time you finally showed up," I remarked wearily, as Mysst stepped up beside me.

"I can’t believe she flew out of my range like that, that’s never happened before...though, considering how immense her Mana is, even if had caught her in one of my Dimensions, I don’t think I would be able to keep her contained for more than a few seconds," She responded with a wary look on her face, as I collapsed onto one knee, my Soul Weapon Ascension fading as my vision blurred.

"She’s only acting as a diversion, I think something’s happening at the castle. Could you hold her off while I-...?" I began as I shakily got back onto my feet with a grimace.

"Absolutely not, no way I’m fighting this thing alone, I’ll die for sure," She shook her head immediately, before I could even finish.

"Come on, Mysst...look, she’s not even attacking right now, she’s just watching us. She’s making a clearly concerted effort to avoid killing anyone, so-..."

"The answer’s still no, I can sense how powerful she is, there’s a good chance that she’ll end up killing me by accident even if she’s trying not to."

That’s...probably true, yes. Damn it, what do we-...?

Suddenly, a bright flash erupted in the sky in the distance, from the direction that the castle was in, the Monster girl’s expression brightening as she saw it.

"Looks like I’m done here. This was fun, we should do this again sometime, hope you’re stronger by then. Bye, see you later!" She grinned as she gave us a wave, inhaling sharply to extinguish and reabsorb the flames around the area back into herself, before flying off towards the flash at an incredible speed.

I lost sight of her almost instantly, a slight shockwave erupting as she took out, causing me to stumble back.

"She’s just...leaving?" Inquired Mysst in bewilderment, after a brief silence.

"We need to get to the castle, immediately," I responded, grabbing her wrist and leading her along with me as I headed in that direction, taking deep breaths to regain my energy as the heat around the area subsided.

What exactly did she come here to accomplish? Based on her earlier response, it isn’t to assassinate King Landis.

Even if she hadn’t given that away, it would’ve been unlikely regardless...if that’s what she was after, she wouldn’t have had any reason to act as a diversion, she’s more than capable of destroying the entire castle by herself if she wanted to.

If that isn’t her goal, then what is? I’m getting a bad feeling about this...
