SSS Awakening: I Can Steal Attributes
Chapter 88: In Motion
Desther told Noah to stay put as he surveyed their surroundings.
Although everything may seem normal, Desther actually noticed some faint traces on the surroundings that had been moved or altered.
From the looks of it, his plan of dumping all the baits in this area was already beginning to work its wonders.
"Let’s go check the dumping site, we should be able to see some surprises. Be careful not to startle them."
The two of them proceed forward carefully.
With his enhanced senses, Desther was able to sense the faint presence ahead of them, confirming his initial assumption.
When they arrived near the dumping site, the stench had already begun to assault their nose.
This kind of stench would become unbearable in the following days, but some monsters, especially scavengers, would obviously love such a smell.
Those scavenger-type monsters were the real reason why he made such a dead dumping site to begin with.
When he realized that they would come to this part of Veldora Woods, Desther had immediately searched what kind of monsters would be present here.
Aside from the most common Demon Bunny and Devil Boar, there were obviously other monsters that would be present here as well.
However, if numbers were counted, then aside from Demon Bunny, the next in the list should be Ravenous Lizards.
They were known as opportunistic scavengers and did not usually hunt their own prey. They were often seen feeding on the flesh of dead monsters, leaving only bones behind.
The only problem with Ravenous Lizards was that although they were numerous, it was very hard to spot them if there was no corpse they could feed on.
Hiding behind a tree, Desther and Noah moved and saw the Ravenous Lizards for the first time.
They were the size of a crawling infant and had a body as thick as a small log. Strong muscular arms with long pointy snouts. Their eyes were extremely green, almost the same color as their skin. Their long tongue flickered in and out of their mouth.
As of this moment, there were actually five of them.
They were now feeding on the corpses of the Demon Bunnies they previously hunted, feeding on the rotting corpses of the Demon Bunnies as if it were a delicacy.
Noah widened his eyes upon seeing the scene.
Unlike Desther, he was never the type to do advanced research, nor was he the type to analyze complicated things.
When Desther told him to gather the corpses of the Demon Bunnies, he only thought that it was just for sanitary purposes.
After all, the only thing valuable in Demon Bunnies was their middle claws. Even their meat was considered bad since there were better alternatives in the market.
Even someone like him who had not tried monster meat before knew of such detail, so how could Desther not know about it?
Seeing the Ravenous Lizards feasting on the corpses they dumped in one place, Noah seemed to have realized Desther’s ingenious plan.
Now, the next thing they should do is hunt these Ravenous Lizards and add them to their points.
However, just when he was about to make a move, Desther once again raised his hand to stop Noah from taking action.
"What?" Noah was confused upon being stopped by Desther.
Seeing his face, Desther could only sigh and explain his reason to him.
"Didn’t I tell you not to startle them? If you startle them, they might not come back any more. Let them feast for now. According to the experts, although scavengers, Ravenous Lizards are actually gregarious monsters. Most of the time, their community could go up to fifteen members or more."
"There were only five of them as of the moment. They would surely call their companions once they realized that there was a huge feast here and without any danger."
Hearing that, Noah finally understood his intention.
"But won’t it be too dangerous if we wait for more to come?"
He must admit that he had already gotten used to Desther’s way of doing things. But would they really be able to fight monsters of such a number?
"Don’t worry about it. I’ll handle it when the time comes. Let’s leave for now. Dump those corpses around here," Desther stated and prepared to leave.
Noah followed suit and dumped the new corpses near the vicinity of the dumping site without alerting the Ravenous Lizards.
The two of them arrived in their tree house a few minutes later.
It was already dark by the time they arrived.
As usual, Desther checked the trips and traps he set up to check if there were any discrepancies.
One of the trips was actually triggered, but upon checking it, he assumed it might just be a passing monster or animals.
Although rare, ordinary animals actually still existed in the wild.
Most of the time, though, they were just prey to the much more powerful monsters, so their numbers were extremely limited.
A lot of animal species might have already gone extinct by now.
During the Age of A Descent, even the fierce lions and tigers could not contend with the monsters.
It would be lucky enough if one or two of their species had survived until now.
The one that triggered the trip, though, was not something big.
If he had to guess, Desther assumed that it might just be an ordinary rabbit or rodent.
After fixing the trip, he began to prepare for dinner.
However, Noah volunteered he would cook using the supplies he brought, so Desther did not insist.
Instead, while Noah was preparing their meal, he decided to check the school app and see if there were any changes in the ranking.
Compared to earlier, their point acquisition rate had obviously decreased as well.
Just like Desther and Noah, they should have decided to call it a day as well.
As for hunting during the night, it was indeed possible, but the risk would be countless times greater.
As he was browsing the app, Desther suddenly saw a tab that was recently added in the app.
’Hmm? An exchange system with the points we got?’
