Chapter 348: Completely New Enemy

At Blackwatch Command Center, New Clark City.

"What the fuck is happening?" Richard demanded as soon as he entered the command center. The staff immediately rose to their feet, halted what they were doing, and saluted him.

"At ease," Richard waved his hand dismissively, prompting the staffers to return to their stations. The screens around the room flickered with real-time data and satellite images, showcasing the escalating situation.

Richard moved swiftly to the main console, his gaze fixed on the display showing the monstrous creature wreaking havoc in Shanghai. "Report," he snapped, his voice tense with urgency.

Mark stepped forward, tablet in hand. "Sir, approximately fifteen minutes ago, a monster surfaced in downtown Shanghai. It’s massive—larger than anything we’ve encountered before. Our ground forces are engaged, but their current armaments are ineffective."

Richard’s jaw tightened. "Casualties?"

"Estimates are still coming in, sir, but the initial reports suggest minimal losses as it was the infantry that encountered them," Mark replied.

Richard exhaled sharply, running a hand through his hair. "What about air support and heavy artillery?"

"They’re en route, sir, but the creature’s resilience is beyond our predictions. The standard ordinance isn’t making a dent. We may need to consider more drastic measures."

Richard’s gaze returned to the screen and scanned it. "That monster wreaking havoc, this is the first time we saw that creature right?"

"They are not in our database, possible offspring created by Lin Feng," Mark guessed. "But without specifics, it’s hard to tell. We may have to deploy special forces in the area, find out where it emerged, and study its origin to determine the best course of action."

Richard nodded. "Do it. Assemble a team immediately."

"We have a candidate for that," Mark said as he extended his arms toward the door where Graves entered.

"Seems like it’s a mission for me," Graves remarked as he moved towards the screen. "Oh...that’s new. I thought Lin Feng was dead. How come there are still monsters aside from zombies?"

Richard crossed his arms... "Yes, Lin Feng is gone, but it appears his creations weren’t all accounted for. This one is unlike any we’ve faced before. We think it might be a new type, possibly engineered to activate after his death. Because biologically speaking, there’s no way a humanoid can grow that tall."

Graves nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation. "What’s the plan then? Standard recon, gather intel, and see if we can find a weakness?"

"Well your mission is not to exterminate it, you are to investigate, we have sa muscles on their way to its location, you are going to prepare yourself and your team for an immediate departure."

Graves gave a quick nod, his expression all business. "Understood. I’ll prep the team."

Just then, Mark turned back to Richard, an update ready. "Sir, the two Apaches have reached the location. They’re holding position and ready to engage if it becomes necessary, but they won’t make a move until we have a better understanding of what we’re dealing with."

Richard nodded, his eyes never leaving the live feed on the display. "What do you mean ready to engage? They should engage now so we find out what we are dealing with. Come on, that monster may be tall but there’s no way it can reach our Apaches. Viper 1 and 2, you are cleared to engage. Use your full arsenal, but keep it measured. We need to test its capabilities."

The radio crackled with the response, "Viper 1, roger that. Engaging with AGM-114 Hellfire missiles. Viper 2 following up with 30mm chain gun."

In the command center, the screens displayed the Apaches maneuvering into attack positions. Viper 1 lined up its shot, the thermal imaging highlighting the monstrous creature’s immense silhouette against the backdrop of the city.

"Viper 1, firing Hellfire," the pilot’s voice was calm over the comms.

The missile streaked across the sky, a brief flash of fire before it struck the creature squarely in the torso. The explosion was a brilliant burst of orange and red, momentarily illuminating the surrounding destruction. But as the smoke cleared, the creature remained standing, seemingly unfazed, its dark figure now outlined by smoldering patches on its skin.

"Direct hit, but it looks like minimal effect," reported Viper 1, a note of disbelief in the pilot’s tone. "Switching to 30mm chain gun."

Viper 2 swooped in lower, the rat-tat-tat of the chain gun ripping through the night air. The rounds were designed to penetrate armor, yet they seemed to only chip away at the creature’s thick, hide-like skin. It turned slowly, massive arms swinging with ponderous force, one slamming into a nearby building.

The impact was catastrophic. The building’s upper floors crumbled under the force, sending debris crashing to the streets below, a cloud of dust billowing out from the destruction.

"Damn, it’s like it’s made of stone," muttered Richard under his breath as he watched the havoc unfold. "Viper 1 and 2, use Hydra missiles, aim for the joints, maybe we can slow it down."

Viper 1 acknowledged the order, circling around for another pass. "Loading Hydra 70s," came the pilot’s focused reply over the radio. The Hydra 70 rocket pods, typically used for softer targets, were a rapid-fire solution they hoped might exploit any weaker anatomy in the creature’s massive limbs.

As Viper 1 and 2 adjusted their flight path, the creature seemed to sense the impending threat, its movements growing more deliberate. It raised its massive arms defensively, a primitive but effective guard against the incoming barrage.

"Viper 2, engaging," the pilot announced, and a volley of Hydra rockets burst from the pods, streaking through the air like a swarm of angry wasps. The explosions bloomed one after another along the creature’s arms and shoulders, a series of fiery impacts that rocked its frame but failed to bring it down.

Despite the onslaught, the creature’s response was ferocious. With a sweeping motion, one of its huge hands struck another building, shearing through the structure with ease. Concrete and glass shattered, raining down on the streets below as the building groaned and tilted dangerously.

Back at the command center, Richard watched the destruction unfold, frustration mounting. "It’s tough but it’s hopeless against conventional weapons, especially heavy armaments. We worried ourselves for nothing. An AC-130 could have defeated that monster easily."

"True...let’s exterminate it," Mark said.

And the helicopters eliminated the monster, its huge body falling to the ground, sending tremors down the city. However, Richard noticed something.

"It doesn’t have a health bar like every monster summoned by Lin Feng and I didn’t receive any notification. Looks like we are facing a completely different enemy."
