The Assassin's Redemption: A Princess's Journey to Forgiveness
Chapter 187: Newton Can’t Understand
Isadora kicked the beddings on the side upon hearing what the stranger had said. She didn’t even know who he was but upon the mention of the witches, she could not help but fear for Alexander. Kael made no effort to stop her either. Hurriedly slipping her feet in her boots, she made for the door to only be met by Lord Newton who was surprised to see her on her feet. "Is everything all...""Is Alexander okay? Where is he?" She hastily asked. Newton was surprised by how adamant she looked now, as if she would stop at nothing to get something he couldn’t put his finger on. And of all the people, she had asked of Alexander when she woke up! But why? He looked at her blue eyes but all he could see was fear, and determination! "I... I have just released the palace guards squadron to help in the war. Alexander is fighting with the witches, " he said, scratching the back of his neck. But before he could turn to see her reaction, Isadora had already walked past him nearly throwing him off balance before she started running in the direction of the palace gates. "Where do you think you are going?" Newton asked regaining his footing. But Isadora was quick. She held the hem of her dress and ran as fast as her legs could carry her. "Don’t stop her," came Kael’s stoic voice. Newton looked at his direction crazily. Was this guy even normal? Or it was his and Griffin’s plan to have Isadora die in the war? That way, his wish of having Crescia to himself would be fulfilled. "Was this part of Griffin’s plan?" He asked stalking towards where Kael sat. He grabbed him by the collar making him drop the book on the floor. The words immediately faded but both were too occupied to notice it. "Answer me!" Newton demanded. But Kael retained a calm expression. He could disappear into thin air and leave Newton holding a collar if he wanted to, but he didn’t! "Crescia is forever indebted to Alexander. Me, you, His Majesty and everyone else." A frown settled on Newton’s face. "What do you mean?" He held the collar tighter just in case Kael tried to free himself with his sweet but confusing words. "I never knew the Crescian Royal family was just but a bunch of witches born through Crescian women." That’s what Kael had concluded at least. Otherwise, why would they have Crescian like appearance. But all this had turned music to Newton’s ears. If he was looking for a way to escape, someone should have told him to use another way but not with words. He was just bad at it. "Are you done?" He asked raising a brow. "I know you don’t believe me but you’ll see it for yourself." And as if he had remembered something,"The book! It’s written in that book. I read it from there." Newton furrowed his brows while giving Kael that hawk’s look. His gaze swept in the room and saw the book lying on the floor, open but empty! "Someone should have told you you are bad at lying." He lifted his hand to punch Kael but ended up hitting thin air. In his left hand was the shirt Kael was wearing before. Damn it! He cursed before storming out of the room.*****Alexander was having difficult time fighting with the witches. Though they were not better than him in swordsmanship, the damned beings could cast spells on him, rendering him immobile at times. He grit his teeth when a slash cut across his back instantly painting his armour scarlet. Griffin, who was standing a few feet away from the scene, was smiling as lady luck had vested upon him. Beside him stood the witch leader of this particular coven. "After he dies and you take over Valoria, you’ll have to support me. I went against the witches rule and brought the dragon here." "Don’t worry about that. I’ll make you so strong that the other witches will all be under you. Show me what your dragon has got."The witch leader slightly nodded before he closed his eyes and started mumbling some words. As if spellbound, the dragon roared in the sky and started descending towards Alexander! *****Isadora reached for the stables and ordered the stable boy to give her a horse. The boy was reluctant at first but eventually handed her the reins of a white horse. Isadora climbed the horse before she heard Newton’s voice from behind. "Stop her!" She took that as a cue and urged the horse forward leaving the boy surprised. Newton ran towards the place panting but Isadora had already left. "Get my horse!" He ordered the boy who acted swift and brought his black horse to him. Her hair danced in the wind as she raced through the woods, her heart beating in anticipation. She could already hear the loud roar of the dragon in the distance. Fortunately, it was one. Still, she feared for Alexander and his men. The fact that this was happening again just as she had seen in her dream, or was it memory, brought fear in her heart. What if she failed to save him again? She’d blame herself forever. "Stop there princess!" She heard someone call her from behind. She craned her neck and saw Newton fast approaching. Of course he was a better rider than her so he’d catch up. She halted and alighted her horse and so did he? "What do you think you are doing?" He asked, trying to catch his breath at the same time. "Doing what I was supposed to do many years ago," she said with no hint of emotion on her face."And what is that?" Newton asked with a frown. "Helping my husband."A chuckle escaped Newton’s lips. Everyone knew that the princess of Crescia was never married. "You can’t understand. Just wait and see," she said just as Kael had, and turned to climb her horse. Panic kicked in Newton’s heart and he was quick to respond before Isadora could do something stupid. He held the reins of the horse before Isadora could leave. "What do you think you are doing? I order you to let go of the reins," she commanded but Newton shook his head lightly, disobeying her for once. "No!" Came his blatant reply.New book alert! Title: Indebted To A Vampire.
