The Assassin's Redemption: A Princess's Journey to Forgiveness
Chapter 188: A Berserk Dragon
Alexander stood in the battlefield with his shoulders slightly bent as the drops of the rain descended on his skin heavily. For some odd reason, it had started to rain, heavily at that. The drops hit his open wounds but he didn’t show a sign of pain for once, and neither did he have the luxury to. His red eyes had turned to a shade of vivid purple that he looked like the devil now. He could hear the roar of the dragon and the approaching steps of the witches as if in background. A drop of his blood fell on the ground before it was quickly washed by the rain as if it never existed in the first place. But something darker and evil was now lurking within Alexander. This was the version of himself that he even feared to witness. Thunder roared in the once clear sky casting an ominous feeling in the area. Even the witches and Griffin felt the sudden change in aura, and so did the dragon. Instead of descending on Alexander, it avoided him now! Something darker than a vortex had waken in him. He lifted his eyes slightly letting his satanic gaze seep into the souls of each of the witches that it made them halt. His gaze alone looked like the signature to hell, even for the witches who referred to themselves as dark beings. Before they could even act on repulse, in what could be termed as a blur, Alexander had ran past them and was now standing on the other side with his blade dripping with blood. Heads and bodies split into different sizes fell behind him. Griffin who had been watching the whole scene swallowed a lump when their eyes locked. He sure had seen Alexander fight but this was the devil himself. Those purple eyes bored vividly into his as if stamping his name in the list of death. He sure was the devil. And as if the sword was useless, he dropped it on the ground and in his hand materialized the longest of the nails Griffin had ever seen. He had even lost count of how many times he had swallowed hard. Sweat was already breaking on his face at the intimidating look he was getting. And as if that was not enough, Alexander moved effortlessly through the next batch of witches and some Crescians ripping organs apart with his bare hands. Not an ounce of humanity could be detected in him as he held a beating heart in his hands. Griffin could be lying if he would say fear had not clouded his being. His heart was racing like one in a marathon, for once! Even the witch leader standing by his side was left mouth open, not because his people were being killed but by marvelling at the great power Alexander held, great power that would end his life eventually. Mindless witches! "He’ll get to us soon! Send the dragon!" Griffin ordered. "It defied my orders Your Majesty," the witch leader said with an apologetic tone. "So what do you want me to do?" He asked biting the corner of his lips. Filled with anger, he drove a knife through the leader a belly. "Useless!" He spat. Fleeing was the only option he had for now but the Valorians were fast approaching already. The only way he could flee was the direction of the devil. Surprisingly, he feared him more than the majority of Valorians. The dragon soared in the sky spitting fire aimlessly now that its controller had died. And spotting people on the ground, it descended upon them turning the once beautiful clearing into a blazing inferno. Even some of the Valorians who had managed to reach the clearing were not spared. The fresh scent of burning flesh lingered in the once chilly atmosphere. The weather turned more gloomy as if resonating with the now berserk dragon. It spared no witch, Crescian or Valorian alike. Alexander gritted his teeth revealing his unusually longer canines. His purple eyes narrowed at the dragon and Griffin. He had two options now, both of which were dear to him. This was the perfect of chances to end Griffin’s life but that would cost Valorians lives. Either way, he had to save his people but the dragon looked more fatal. Damn! This coward was definitely going to run away, but for how long? Alexander was tired of these games. An idea popped in his mind. He was going to kill two birds with one stone!Griffin was running in the opposite direction to get his horse when a figure landed in front of him. He tilted his head to one side and saw his horse caught up in flames. Damn! But the horse was not the problem but the person standing in front of him. He slowly raised his eyes to meet with those cold blue eyes that belonged to this devil in human form. The flames engulfing the place danced in unison with the wind as if yearning to roast him to ashes. Coupled with the fire that surrounded them, Alexander was undoubtedly a devil in disguise. He took a step back his eyes still bored in his pink ones but that made an evil smile light Alexander’s face. He took a bored step forward like one prepared to slaughter a helpless chicken that was bound with robes. And though Griffin was not bound with anything, he felt like an irresistible force was holding him. He unsheathed his sword and pointed it at Alexander who halted in his steps. His eyes scanned the frail being who was shaking uncontrollably at his mere presence. And though a king, he was holding the sword like someone inexperienced. Alexander smirked and in a flash, he took the sword from Griffin now pointing it at his neck. His eyes were filled with mirth contrary to Griffin’s whose eyes looked like that of a hungry cat expecting a piece of meat from its owner. This guy deserved to die in the most gruesome way. Alexander thought of one but nothing that came his mind seemed to please him. Anger like no other filled his chest when he thought of the things Griffin had done to him and his men. This guy deserved death! He raised his sword ready to strike when,"Stop!" That familiar voice! What was she doing here?Phew! Was busy with exams but now I’m done.
