The Assassin's Redemption: A Princess's Journey to Forgiveness
Chapter 190: Queen Isadora
When Isadora had earlier explained to Newton about her past with Alexander and what was written in the book, he didn’t believe her. To him, that was just an excuse for her to go to the warzone and that couldn’t happen under his watch even if it meant defying her orders. But when a ranging Isadora said that she wanted to kill her uncle for vengeance, it left him confused. But not until she told him that the person behind her parents death all these years was Griffin. And as much as he wanted to deny the accusation, he knew Isadora was not that naive to accuse a king falsely. That would be treason! And it’d only act to Griffin’s advantage. He had wanted to take the vengeance on her behalf but she refused saying it was her own fight. And as she watched Griffin now holding his bleeding stomach as a pool of blood formed around him, she couldn’t help but imagine the pain her parents had gone through. Her mother’s screamed echoed in her mind, a tear followed. Just how greedy and heartless was this man to kill his own brother? Her scrutinizing gaze shifted to an already groaning and pale Griffin who was cursing under his breath. His breath came out irregularly as he panted for air. To Isadora, this was not even close to what her parents could have passed through. Furthermore, a stab could not be compared to burning someone alive. Jade stepped forward but said nothing to what Isadora had done. The two just stared coldly at a pathetic Griffin whose vision was blurring out. Brandon who had gone to get some chains for Griffin halted on his tracks at the site that welcomed him. "You should have saved the fun for me as well," Jade commented after a while of silence, her gaze never leaving a lifeless Griffin on the ground, or was it really? "Even after stabbing him I don’t feel like my parents are content. He deserves more than a stab." And turning to look at Jade,"He needs to be burnt!"Isadora drew in a long sharp breath before she added, "Only then can I be at peace." "I agree. Seeing his body intact makes me feel like killing him over and over again. But for ashes, it’d be difficult." Jade called two of the Crescian knights and instructed them to carry Griffin’s body to the capital. After all, he was dead so Alexander wouldn’t need him. But she and Isadora needed to burn it! "What do you plan now?" Jade asked walking to where Isadora stood staring at the direction of the Valorian capital. "We need to help him. He can’t do it alone." The witches behind were being tied and interrogated but none seemed to have knowledge on how to control a dragon. "We are in this together." Jade placed her hand on the princess’s shoulder, a smile lighting her once serious face. "Your mother would be very proud of the woman you’ve become."Isadora frowned. "Do you think so?" As far as she was concerned, Griffin raised her in a way that her parents would have. Not like she liked that style anyway. "Yes. Everything happens for a reason." ’Growl!’ They both stared at the distance with Isa’s heart beating loudly. Consequently, the rain had stopped, a dark gray blanket of clouds now migrating towards the capital. Screams of women crying in the streets echoed through the forest casting fear in Isadora. Seeing Alexander leave for the second time was the last thing in her mind. But why did she let him go? She should have been selfish and eloped with him to Crescia. But the people needed him now more than ever, and he needed her! She wanted to share the sweet memories of their past with him and hold him in her bossom. "I have to go now!" She hurriedly picked her sword and called for her horse. "Aren’t you forgetting something, Your Majesty?" Isadora turned to find Jade kneeling behind her. "You are the new ruler of Crescia, My Queen. You deserve it!" She looked back and saw all the other Crescians present kneeling. "Hail to Queen Isadora!" She would have lived to enjoy the moment but this was just not the right time. But wait! That meant she could use the Crescians to rescue those trapped in the city! "Arise!" She ordered with her chin slightly raised like the Queen she was. Jade was the first to stand and walk beside her. This only meant she was either her personal knight or advisor."We need to save the Crescians trapped in the city before the dragon turns everything to ashes. Let’s save the innocent souls of our brothers!"The knights yelled in unison before taking their horses while others followed on foot. And for once in a lifetime, Crescians walked beside each other with swords but without fighting each other. That day would sure be recorded in history, all this thanks to Isadora. The caravan was close to the city when Newton caught up with them. He was ferrying a woman and two of her children from the city. "How bad is the situation?" Isadora asked directly. "Worse," was the curt reply from him. His eyes scanned through the crowd before he asked, "Where is His Majesty?""He’s dead," Jade replied earning a frown from Newton. He couldn’t remember having seen such a lady before. "Isadora is the new ruler now." "And you are?""Apologies for not introducing myself Newton. I am the sister to Isadora’s mother." Newton turned to Isadora for confirmation and when she nodded, he was awed but quickly hid it. "It’s a pleasure to meet you My Lady.""Where’s Alexander?" Isadora asked. A gnawing feeling had developed already, one she was afraid would haunt her later. "He’s up there," Newton pointed at the sky where a large bird and a glowing human were fighting. It was an intense fight that only the two beings up there could tell its intensity.
