Chapter 110: Sickeningly sweet

Alex came back with the plasma gun, but Yu Wen, whom he had left sitting on the bed, was now looking for something in a hurry. His steps paused, and he asked, "Wh-what happened?"

Yu Wen opened his suitcase, and right at the bottom, he opened a secret pocket. He took out the starburst pendant and sighed in relief. After almost losing it last time on the battle front, he had packed it away safely.

With a great sense of relief, he put it back on the chain and put it on. "Find whoever broke in and bring them to me," he said, his expression and tone cold.

Alex replied abruptly, "Yes, sir," and rushed out. He had to get the drone footage and check what they saw, as well as ask around in the hotel if anyone saw something unusual.

The doctor said, "You were drugged by a harmless knockout gas. It was just to make you sleep. There are no side effects, so it’s basically harmless. Just drink some water." Yu Wen gritted his teeth. When he found out who had the balls to do this to him, he was going to tear them into pieces.

He sneered as he took the glass from the doctor. He gulped down the entire glass in one go, and as he set the glass down, his foot touched something. He looked down, and peeking from under the bed was a ski mask.

His jaw clenched as he picked it up. The culprit even had the audacity to leave evidence behind. He was about to open it and check for any hair follicles they could use for DNA when he smelt a familiar scent.

When he realized what it was, his furrowed brows relaxed, and he smiled. It was the fruity smell of berry blast. There were only two people he knew who had the balls to do this and ate berry blast candy on a regular basis. The first was his mother, but she wasn’t on Elora. That left only one other person.

The doctor, who thought he was about to explode, looked at that dazzling smile in confusion. He was starting to think that he was wrong about the side effects. Maybe smiling brightly was one of the unheard symptoms or perhaps a fever, because his ears were turning red.

"Sir," he said, and Yu Wen pulled out two strands of hair from inside the mask. Li Jun could change his face, but he couldn’t change his DNA.

He handed them over to the doctor and said, "Test this and let me know who it is."

The older man was baffled. He pulled out a clear medical waste bag while saying, "What if they aren’t in the criminal database? How should I proceed?"

Yu Wen tilted his head slightly and said, "He will be in Red Valkyrie’s database. Hurry up and get it done. It’s top priority."

"Yes, sir," he said before scurrying out of the room.

Left alone, Yu Wen looked down at the pendant hanging around his neck and said, "Is this what you are looking for? If you want to get it back, then you would have to face me." His eyes, which had been cold before, were now filled with tenderness. His mother was right. Li Jun had come to find him.

He tapped his phone and called Alex. Alex, who was fighting for his life, trying to get away from the two old ladies he had been questioning, heaved a sigh of relief when his phone rang.

He stood up from the couch with an apologetic smile before running out of there. They had messed up his hair and tugged at his jacket, leaving him a disheveled mess. Those were some horny grandmas.

Hearing what Yu Wen said, he rushed into the elevator. Yu Wen had told him to stop looking and bring whatever he had. Alex was so confused, but he didn’t dare ask. When he entered the suite, the atmosphere had completely changed. It was no longer oppressive but rather sickeningly sweet.

Yu Wen was texting someone before pouring out some coffee. He looked up and asked, "Do you want some?" Alex nodded, and the man smiled as he poured out a second cup.

Alex, "WTF"

"What are you standing there for? What did you find?" Yu Wen said as he sat down, placing the cups of coffee on the counter.

"Oh, that’s right," Alex replied as he walked over. He sat on the barstool next to him and tapped his phone. A floating screen of the drone footage appeared, and he said, "The drones flew past your balcony just fine before. But on the next cycle they didn’t record anything. It was all static until this morning."

Yu Wen wasn’t surprised that they didn’t get anything off the security drones. Li Jun would obviously be cautious. The man didn’t want him to know what he looked like now. He took a sip and asked, "Anything else?"

"Two old ladies saw a man zipline down this morning. When they asked, he said that he was cleaning windows."

Yu Wen glanced at him and asked, "Is that all?"

Alex licked his dry lips and said, "They said he was so handsome that they told him to come clean their windows, but he said, and I quote, ’My husband wouldn’t like that’."

Yu Wen paused, the rim of the mug brushing his lips. The corners of his lips curled slightly. Next time he saw Li Jun, he wanted to ask him who this husband was. First, it was the jealous and possessive boyfriend, and now it was a jealous husband.

Seeing that he was in a good mood, Alex asked, "Sir, why did you ask me to suspend the search? Shouldn’t we be knocking door to door? They might still be here."

Yu Wen knew there was no way he was still here. Li Jun knew he wouldn’t stop till he found him, so he ran off to hide. But soon enough he would come back because he didn’t have what he was looking for. "There is no need to keep looking. They will come back."

Alex was now even more confused. He was about to ask another question when the doctor rushed in and said, "Sir, we got a match, but it’s strange. It matches the late imperial prince’s DNA."

Hearing this, Alex choked on his coffee. He was thinking, ’What the hell did this old fool say?’
