The Mad King's Heir
Chapter 111: Was this how young people played these days?
Alex was in shock. How could the person who broke into Yu Wen’s room be Li Jun? He saw him die. He watched him die with his own two eyes, so how was this possible? There was video evidence of what happened that day. Everyone who is anybody saw him die, so how?
"Impossible! Old man, your test is compromised," he said, looking at the old man like he was crazy.
The doctor wouldn’t and couldn’t tolerate such slander. He had retaken the test several times, and the result was the same each time. He was also in shock, but the facts were laid bare before him. This was why he rushed over here to let Yu Wen know, but who would have thought that his expertise would be questioned?
He pointed his shaky finger at him and said, "You you you. How dare you question me? I am the best in the field."
"So how do you explain that a dead person showed up in this room last night, huh?" Alex was about to pick a fight with him, but Yu Wen stopped them.
"Enough," he said, his voice filled with unquestionable authority. The two of them shut up and looked at him as though waiting for a verdict. Yu Wen set his cup down and said, "What I am going to say stays in this room. If any of you share that information, I will apply the rules of Red Valkyrie. Do you understand?"
The two of them nodded, and their expressions looked all gossipy like they couldn’t wait to hear the tea. Yu Wen looked at them for a second before saying, "He is alive. What you saw that day was all orchestrated by him. That’s all you need to know."
The room instantly fell silent, the two of them digesting what they had just heard. How? How was this possible? The curious part of the physician made him ask, "How can that be. That was the imperial prince’s face. They scan him before the trial. If it were someone who impersonated him, they would be caught. The mask would be easily detected."
Yu Wen could understand his confusion. Such face masks had existed for five decades, but it was a mask after all. Afraid that people would commit crimes with other people’s faces, they were ahead of the technology. They had scanning devices all over Aurelia in case a crime was committed.
The imperial palace was notorious for having several scanning devices all around as precautionary measures, so if someone was wearing a mask like Li Jun that day, it would have been detected immediately.
Secondly, his voice was the same as Li Jun’s, even his mannerisms. Before trial, a prisoner had their DNA taken and every identifying feature recorded, so how could that not be Li Jun who died?
Yu Wen glanced at the doctor and said, "There are advances in technology that the public isn’t exposed to." Draco might have been an underworld base back in the day, but he was obsessed with technological advancement, and so was Li Jun. Yu Wen realized that it had probably taken them so long to fake Li Jun’s death because they were trying to perfect this new face-changing technology.
"What was he looking for here? Shouldn’t he be living his new life somewhere far from the front lines?" asked Alex, genuinely confused. These two hated each other so much that whenever they were in each other’s vicinity, they would exchange words and sometimes put their hands on each other.
You would think that Li Jun would stay away from Yu Wen after faking his death, yet here he was breaking into his room, and why was Yu Wen smiling? When he found out who the perpetrator was, the murderous air he had before was gone, and he seemed to be in a really good mood. What was really going on between these two?
Yu Wen didn’t want to tell him. He just said, "He is looking for something, and he thinks I have it."
To Alex, this answer seemed vague, almost dismissive, but he dared not ask further. He could only say, "How should we proceed?"
Yu Wen’s lips curled slightly, and he said, "We proceed as scheduled. We leave the city tomorrow morning."
Alex wanted to say that he meant about Li Jun, but he couldn’t open his mouth to ask. He just watched Li Jun get up to take a shower. He then looked at the doctor, who huffed at him before walking out of the suite. He sighed and got up to leave as well. His services weren’t required.
Yu Wen, on the other hand, entered the bathroom and looked at himself in the mirror. Now that he knew that Li Jun likely helped him to bed and slept in his arms, his body was buzzing with excitement.
Looking at his reflection, he seemed to be glowing. His heart was racing with an intense kind of joy that seemed both surreal and undeniable. The excitement he felt was so pure, and it spilled out in laughter. His chest felt light, like it was filled with fluff and eternal happiness.
His phone vibrated, and he answered the call. It was his mother. Lu Anu had been fast asleep when he had sent her a message. It was only when she had woken up that she saw it.
She sat up with a jolt and called him immediately. She was wearing a matching silk leopard-print pajama set and an overnight beauty mask. That jump scare didn’t faze Yu Wen at all. He was used to it.
"You see, you should always listen to me," she said with excitement in her voice. She was glad her plan had worked. After days of not hearing anything, she was starting to second-guess herself. "Where is he now?"
Yu Wen pursed his lips before saying, "He is gone. He knocked me out last night and cuddled with me before making a run for it." If Li Jun had heard him say this, he would have denied it. He would have blamed it all on Yu Wen. Who wanted to cuddle with him? He was just trapped.
Lu Anu was surprised. He couldn’t understand these two. What sort of game was this? Was this how young people played these days? What happened to meeting each other for coffee or going on a dinner date? Instead, they were playing a weird version of Cinderella like Yu Wen’s face would melt if he didn’t run off before sunrise.
