It is not the matter of you being born a slave but the matter of how you got to where you are now. The things you did, and the things you stole. The kind of heart you truly have. Nevier had to give up a lot to get to her position, including her entire childhood. She had to make a lot of sacrifices. She also had to keep making sacrifices to protect the reputation of the imperial family and that includes showing tolerance towards everything that you and Sovieshit did to her and her family. She couldn't even go to anyone to cry and be comforted. Just because a person is higher in statis and has more money and power doesn't mean they don't make their own sacrifices in life. Now if only that were just as true today.

There have been plenty of mothers who have harmed and even killed their own children whether while out of their minds from postpartem depression, revenge against their husband or lover, to attempt to start a new family or other reasons. Either way, Trashta wouldn't have made a good mother to that baby even if she didn't harm her.
