Chapter 29: Chapter 29

Thomas and Maya returned home late more than their usual time. Until yesterday, they were chef assistants. So their work was not so important as chefs have many assistants but the couple would-be chefs in the near future.

For now, the restaurant is training them and they are sparing no expense.

When they returned home, Aaron prepared food for the night. Cooking was something he learned from his parents as they would come home late and he couldn't always wait for them to return so that he could eat something.

He would cook sometimes, as he knew that his parents would return tired after the day they would have at the restaurant.

Today, he was free and since they had much to talk about when his parents returned, he prepared meals for the night.

"Aaron, we are home", Maya announced as the couple entered their home.

Aaron came out of his room as he heard his mother's voice, "Mom. Dad, you are home. Go freshen up yourselves. I have already prepared meals and by the time you come, it will be on the table".

The couple smiled at Aaron as they understood that they might have exhausted their entire luck to have such a sensible child.

Unlike combat professionals who earn a lot, and could provide their children excellent food for growth, tutors for their education, etc..., Thomas and Maya couldn't provide such things to Aaron. Even though that was the case, Aaron never complained about that.

He even learned to cook, once he was old enough as he understood that they both would be tired by working at the restaurant and cooking again at home would be very cumbersome.

Of course, working at the restaurant has its own perks. They can bring home leftover food but Aaron couldn't always wait till the time they could return home. So, as soon as he was capable he started to cook.

The couple nodded and went to freshen up.

When they returned, Aaron had already placed food on their plates, ready to consume. There were three plates and by that, they understood that Aaron had waited for them. So, they quickly too their seats and so did Aaron.

"So, how did it go with the academy?" Thomas asked nervously.

Aaron smiled, "I got a contract with the Dusk Academy and the academy starts in two weeks", he said.

When Thomas and Maya heard this, they sighed in relief.

Though they might not know all the academies, Dusk Academy being one of the top five, almost everyone knew the name. There would be very few who wouldn't know the top five and they are most likely children.

"Good, good, good", the couple muttered three times exhaling in relief.

For the entire day, they were worried about what academy would take him in. They knew that Aaron was the top student this year in the entire alliance but they also knew that his profession was not that popular.

It is actually a combat profession but was classified as a support profession due to some issues of Death-related professions.

Even though he was at the top, they were worried none at the top would take an interest in him but their worries were for nought. The Dusk Academy gave him a chance to enter their halls, and that was enough to support his growth.

This made them very happy and relieved.

"Wait, you said that the academy would start in two weeks?" Thomas asked Aaron, remembering the second sentence that Aaron said to them.

Thinking that Aaron was accepted into the Dusk Academy made them lose focus and they almost missed out on that information.

"Yes", Aaron replied.

"Dusk Academy is not near. Even if you take the train, it would take three days to reach it", Thomas muttered.

"When starting out the academy, it is said that to arrive a day or two before the academy starts and that means you have to leave in ten days or so", Maya muttered, remembering the fact that they now have to send their son away.

Though they never went through the combat academies, they still went to the Chef Academy, and they knew that once a student entered the academy, they wouldn't leave the academy till graduation day.

It's not like the academy restricts their movement or something like that. It would be the student's own decision.

Why would they need to leave when there are a lot of dungeons in the academy, which would help them level up faster?

Everyone wants to level up as fast as possible. No one wants to be left behind. So, normally students wouldn't leave the academies as they would be busy either learning new knowledge or they would be dungeon diving to level up.

Thomas and Maya knew that was what was required to survive in this harsh world and there was nothing they could do about that.

They can't just tell Aaron to come and visit them every now. It would cost him a week to come and leave. If he uses that time, he could level up a few times, if he was in the early stages.

They can't do that, as that could hinder his growth and survival as a result.

What parents would want their children to not grow stronger and survive longer?

So, they kept their mouths shut after they knew that he would be leaving soon and there was nothing that they could do or should do as this travel would help him a lot.

Aaron understood their issue but he too couldn't do anything here, at least not with his power.

He knew that this world was fucked up and to survive in this world, a lot of strength is needed. For now, he appears to be strong but when compared to the alliance, he is just a bigger ant, nothing more.

Anyone at the higher levels of the alliance could crush him as if he were an ant. There was no need for the gods to even think about him. The ones below him are more than enough for that.

The only way to change that was to level up.

Though he spoke nothing, he silently vowed that their troubles would only for a short time. He would reach the pinnacle and his parents would have nothing to fear.
